Scum Thread The Silver Room

Five chairs are arranged in a circle around the miniature replica of the Silver Statue that first welcomed you to the Mansion. Bookcases fill the room all around you. But instead of holding books, they contain all manners of weapons, vials of poison and disassembled traps.

Welcome to the Silver Room.

Feel free to post your role PMs in here.

LuxCommander, weemadarthur, Kitsunelaine, Stuart444 and SaucyKaz: good luck in your evildoing.

SaucyKaz: 1-shot BP
weemadarthur: 3-shot Strong Killer
Stuart444: 3-shot Tracker
LuxCommander: 3-shot RB
Kitsunelaine: 2-shot Silencer (remove voting powers)

I have a single-shot bulletproof protection from kill attempts.

Pleasure to be doing business with you all. I'm game for any strats you guys have in mind.

Welp i’m a 3-shot strong killer and we have map mechanics.
They must have hella protection.

My strat is to forget who I am from now on.
We didn’t happen to pick up any of the noobs and it will be hard to stop town from eating them on day one. We should not concertedly stop that, but I will halfheartedly try.

I want to try a hardcore bamboozle. If two of us try and get the other lynched, when one flips scum, the other will be crowned town. If I get lynched I think my bulletproof will save me and then town will have to wonder what my actual powers are. "Was it a bulletproof or can he just not be lynched?" sort of thing.

I don't know. I'm down for whatever, really. I just wanna win haha.

Sorry i’ma veto that on the basis that it absolutely won’t work as lynchproof is a completely different power.

I'll be defending the new players most likely as I usually do that in my last games as town.

I will also be trying to jump onto any one of yous when it looks like you'll be a candidate. Gotta think of my voting record for later day phases.

I usually "give the benefit of the doubt" to new players on D1 but then go for them on D2 - D3 depending on stuff. (though with me being Mafia and no new players on our team. I'll have to do my best at bluffing it)

So do I, stu, so do I.
Also Kalor is easy pickings as a scumread. The people who feel they can’t push a narrative can always fall back on him. ...sorry, Kalor.

Sure stu, unless they have one too lol. End up in a thunderdome. But lies that are actual truth are the easiest to pass off.

I’m concerned about my murdering being trackable prior to my getting off all my murders....
Why does the RNG think i’m scummy?

Haha, tracker vs tracker would be fun.

My initial thought is they most likely have the usual cop/doctor set-up. Which if so, I need to make sure my tracker power seems suitably weak enough if I have to claim. Maybe 1 or 2 shot since 3 shot + cop might be a bit too powerful for town?

but I don't know much about balance, it's just an assumption.

That said, depending on how the game unfolds, we may be able to put some better claims together.

Hi guys! 3-shot role blocker here. Gonna try not to go too far off the rails and be mindful of my activity. Let's hunt some townies!

But stu why am i a 3-shot STRONG kill then? They may also some bulletproofs etc. also the room mechanic looks like it may issue a bulletproof here and there.

Room descriptions seem clearly to give us: one post restriction day, one vote-permanence day, and one day with ....maybe bulletproof vests given out?

Dunno what the glass wall is though.

weemadarthur

Mad as in angry, or mad as in crazy?
If we’re as eligible for shields then i’m game.
But i will vote for purple. Posting restrictions are nice because it gives us all reason to stay quiet.

LIst of Rooms:

White Room - ?
Green Room - "The voices will be pacified."
Red Room - "Backs will be turned against the glass wall."
Purple Room - "Unincisiveness will be punished."
Blue Room - "Fates could change."
Yellow Room - "The voices will also protect."
Dark Room - "Silence will be punished"
Orange Room - "Noise will muddle the voices."
Pink Room - "All eyes will look across the glass wall."
Grey Room - "Uncertainty will be punished."
Teal Room - "The shield will rise."

weemadarthur

The glass wall could relate to a thingy. Role.

The voices are probably.....er.....masons? Or us. Someone with a chat, you know? So orange could stop the chats from running. So we should make a plan for Orange day. Pacified sounds awful if we apply it to us. Yellow could be beneficial so would save for laters. Hmmm.

I’m tempted to try pushing Pink just to see if we get any info out of it. Course we still have a couple members who might know a thing.

Ohno Dark must be a bigger MINIMUM post for the day.
Lux will have trouble lol.

Blue could activate some RNG or a switcher. Or could be a horoscope level of duh. Or maybe we have a lost person we don’t even know about. Although.....i call that unlikely from our team size...Yeah blue could be ANYTHING.

Kaz being bulletproof, he can kinda flail about and annoy everyone, while not claiming....and if there’s ever a NK night he can act all smug.
Course that may get him shot by a town vig, but that’s his job, so it’s ok.

Geez it’s like my 5th scum game in a row lol. I haven’t played town but once.
And I don’t even like being mafia!

Code:
Silencer

Silencer is a role that chooses a player at night. That player is then unable to speak for the following day. Whether they can still vote is unstandardized.

Silencers are usually scum. There's nothing prohibiting Silencer from being town, but they're arguably negative unility if so.

Silencing a player effectively prevents them from participating in the game for a day. This makes them rather unfun to play against, even for players who are normally lurkers. When used in lategame, they can stop a player from claiming their role and/or results, which can be especially infuriating for a town that may otherwise win if the results can be outed.

Town Silencers can silence scum, but this isn't particularly helpful, as no one will be able to refine reads on them for the day (which is necessary to get them lynched).

Overall, Silencer is not very useful for town, arguably overpowered for scum, and not fun to play against in either case.
Oh my.

That's not how it is for me.

I can remove a player's voting powers.

I'm on the case. That's basically my m.o. anyway. Day 1 I usually vote for the least active.

Busing was the phrase I was looking for, yes. Sorry I've only done two of these games and I think the last one might have been a year ago almost at this point.

hi i'm a backpack
What should my game plan be? My previous games have all kind of been disasters so I'm looking for any and all advice here.

Day one is about not looking too nervous, not doing anything “weird”, and trying to solve the game a bit. Future days can’t be planned this early without info on what weird things will happen. Don’t get too stuck on talking about the room colors - interact with people, too.

If you see something “scummy”, bring it up. Give enough reasoning to sound plausible, it’s ok to sound misguided.

What’s with the “true name” wording? Does someone have fake names? We probably don’t care unless there was a lyncher, which would be a neutral whose job is to kill one particular name.

weemadarthur

“Certain rooms may become unavailable”......so......like there IS a map but we can’t see it? Hmm.

@Brazil
Mafia wiki suggests strong kill can often go through a roleblock. If I was doing that and was roleblocked, would I still have a kill with 1-power? But not double powered? If you can answer, ofc.

Hmm... That would be nice to know, I might be able to pull a gambit with that down the line if things go off the rails. With the team's blessings, of course.

weemadarthur

Mad as in angry, or mad as in crazy?
I don’t think we should jump into using powers too fast, but vote suppression for a single day can also be used on a teammate to help clear them.

All names in the game are just for flavor purposes.

Your strong kill isn't a "double-powered" one as much as it is a kill that ignores protections. I can't answer anything regarding hypothetical PRs, however.

Thx kindly.

I looked up “apate” and it only seems to have meaning in Swahili. Fascinating.

Apate is one of Nyx's (the goddess of night) daughters in Greek mythology. I can't claim to have any knowledge of the Swahili culture or language, hahaha :(

My thoughts exactly. Assuming things don't get too crazy, we will want to wait until Day 3 at the earliest to try something like that.

Kitsunelaine

hi i'm a backpack
I wonder, if we pretend there's something important about game names, would the mods play some sleight of hand with their wording to help us in the gambit? Or would that be cheating?

Kitsunelaine

hi i'm a backpack
In restrospect the answer seems obvious so we should find our on ways to throw confusion as to what's in play and what isn't...

Good thing to note is, the minute the silence power is used, someone will know and will tell town. And will almost for sure be seen as a scum power so one of our powers will be 'known'

Now, we COULD take advantage of it and say it was used on us to fudge our voting record but

If we do that, Kitsune should only ever use it ONCE. If it's used twice and one of us claims it while 2 townies claim it was used on them. the minute Kitsune gets lynched (or killed in cases of Vig or something), whoever is still alive and claimed that will be suspected of being scum.

This also assumes Kitsune is able to get to D3. (I'm not saying that because I think you're a bad player btw. It's an assumption I would make about anyone if they had a power we could take advantage of later in the game)

If she reaches N2/D3, then if Kit uses her power on N1 on a townie and they claim it, she could not use her power on N2 and one of us could claim it on D3.

That may help clear one of us should Kitsune get lynched or killed first.

(if the person from our team who claims it gets killed first, Kitsune could then use their power again on a townie again)

But we're getting into late game territory here. We should see how things go for the first few days and then plan it out from there.

Okay so going to list everyones powers here for reference:

SaucyKaz: 1-shot BP
weemadarthur: 3-shot Strong Killer
Stuart444: 3-shot Tracker
LuxCommander: 3-shot RB
Kitsunelaine: 2-shot Silencer (remove voting powers)

weemadarthur

But we could claim that powers were used on US.
Vote suppression is generally done by a mod by adjusting what the vote tool says, so there is likely not a way to fake it. Occasionally it is done by refusing to let a player POST a vote, in which case they’d get a mod PM telling them so. They may or may not be allowed to say it happened, usually they would be allowed to. Does your role card suggest which way it would happen?
I wonder, if we pretend there's something important about game names, would the mods play some sleight of hand with their wording to help us in the gambit? Or would that be cheating?
No they absolutely won’t lol. Fake claims will never be supported by game runners.

weemadarthur

Mad as in angry, or mad as in crazy?
Personally I’m not much for gambiting. Making up lies is really quite difficult, I prefer to be town by interactions that show my obvious towniness. Going after inconsistencies, pushing people a bit, analyzing.
But then this game is full of people I’ve never played with so I can’t predict how they’ll all jump.

Hmm. that scraps my previously posted plan.

We'll have to see what happens I guess when it gets used. Just because something is generally done by the mod, doesn't mean it will be like that for every game.

btw for those that haven't played or watched a game with me, I tend to be a heavy poster and that will probably translate to this thread :).

(I get very into these games XD)

I was just thinking how sorry I am for my team that I can’t shut up lol. If I start to get too annoying in my constant spam I can take it to another spot.

But that’s ok stu, we gotta make up for Lux lol.

Haha, and here I am, worried about my spam.

Anyway I wonder if the default room has any effect or if it's just vanilla mafia and the real mechanics starts with the new room on D2.

weemadarthur

Mad as in angry, or mad as in crazy?
Day opening post series should clarify that.
Try not to get got on day one people. It’s a day of looking inoffensive and mildly helpful.

I'll do my best lmao. My D1 track record hasn't been good because I get frustrated w/people grasping at straws. Maybe I should do the straw grasping

weemadarthur

Mad as in angry, or mad as in crazy?
You can try it. Just be sure not to look like you have any friends, because we will all stab each other in the back if necessary. ;)
Actually starting a new fire to engulf a small existing fire is a valid firefighting technique.

I get frustrated at that as a townie haha.

That said, I'd rather not bus you but if it looks like it's going that way, it's not personal, it's just business :)

Grizzly can be a good player, should be killed early on.

(for the record, during a recent game, I used his read posts after he died to get most of the scum team)

So... Where do we want to move today? Do we even care about Day 1? We need to be careful how we orchestrate trying to manipulate those decisions; don't want our shadowy presence making itself too known.

I agree, Grizzly can become problematic if we leave him too long. Same with Hecht. That being said, we should be careful in how we eliminate them; we may be able to leverage their reputations against Town if we manage to wedge ourselves into a good pattern.

No arguments here. As much as I'd love to take advantage of the Orange Room, I think I'm going to support dropping it. It seems like a tool better used for manipulation rather than an actual mechanic.

weemadarthur

Mad as in angry, or mad as in crazy?
Grizzly is ALSO quite stubborn. So if he tunnels on a townie he might be more useful for a day lol.
*splinter tho. We should think about splinter.
Godfather is also playing oddly, for him. Could be taking a vanilla role seriously as a mislead.

I'm intentionally being reactionary now (wasn't at first but now I'm rolling with it cause this is how I usually act XD).

Being bored lol? I guess he could have a role where he needs to move but if so he doesn’t get puniched for missinf.

Being bored lol? I guess he could have a role where he needs to move but if so he doesn’t get puniched for missinf.

It's rather unusual for him to act like this. If he was just having fun, he'd probably have stopped now but almost every post is something.

Makes me think it relates to his role.

We'll see tho.

Either way, leave him be, at least for this day cycle. The last thing we need is a neutral or vig blowing up the game before we have a chance to get started.

I'm waiting for someone to call me out on saying how I don't like people who don't participate but also have one of the lowest post counts.

weemadarthur

Mad as in angry, or mad as in crazy?
Lol yes always be a hypocrite.
I’m gonna bug people for not making content while also doing nothing but shitposting.

I’m trying to lay a foundation for someone in town to run with that scum has no powers until we hit the right rooms.
