I think we should operate on the assumption that whoever we NK may not die during the night.

"Fates could change" could easily be a save for whoever is due to be NK'd.

Something we should keep in mind, especially if it reveals who was NK'd and then allowed to live

ie

"X has died"

"You are in the blue room, because of this room, the person that died has been brought back to life"

or something like that.

So we should be careful who we pick to NK.
