Mistery Game

Hi Faddy and OA!!

This should be a quick one, mostly because there are no roles to review.

Basically, it's a create-your role game.

The game is based on HunterxHunter. In HxH all characters have something called Nen, which determinate what kind of powers they have. Here each type of Nen is related to a kind of role and each player is given a Nen type. They have to create a role during N0 based on their type of Nen. After I get all the roles if any of the roles is too OP I will apply some restrictions on it to make it more balanced. If it's so OP that it would break the game I will ask the player to create a new role.

This game will be extremely bastard but players will be told during sign ups the rules of the game and that it will likely be completely broken and that it should be taken as a fun experiment.

The design is here:

Lmfao, this should be amazing

What's the practical difference between conjurers and specialists? They both seem to have a ton of leeway in what roles they can choose. Also, what sort of roles would fall under support?

Conjurers are JOATs, more likely they will be restricted to 1-shot. Or they have a condition to gain a role.

Specialist are whatever they want to be. I'm hoping that they go for really weird roles.

What is the win condition of the Neutral. Or does that depend on the role they choose?

And you need to add at least one player to town.

Right now they can effectively lose after 2 mislynches.

Also are mafia able to communicate while they create their powers?

3-more towns would be ok? Or 1 less scum maybe?

Originally it was a bigger game but I made it smaller because it would be too much chaos. When I reduced the amount I didn't realized that scum was too big.

I think the main thing is that the game should have a high chance of getting to a 3rd day phase.

I think either adding 2 or 3 town or removing 1 scum are both acceptable. I would personally recommend 2 more town. (1 transmuter, 1 specialist).

I feel your pain with not making the game too complex. However I think posting the order role types resolve in and any conflicts are determined via RNG.

Easy example.

Alice says Kill: Bob
Bob says Block: Carol
Carol says Block: Alice

If RNG says Bob goes first then he blocks Carol. Alice is not blocked. Bob dies
If RNG says Carol goes first then she blocks Alice. Bob's block fail because Carol had higher priority. Bob lives.

I will add 2 town but I don't want to add another specialist. Specialist can be too OP so I want to restrict their use.

Good idea with the order of operations. I need to end the day of conspiracy and then I will add that.

Fair enough on the Specialist thing if you are going to let people write OP roles. Any two types will be fine.

This will be a super interesting game. Looking forward to seeing what people come up with.

Use your best judgement and if needed I will make myself available when the game runs if you want a sounding board for determining if a role is too OP.

I added 2 townies: A transmutter and a Conjurer (which is way less OP than a Specialist).

Also added the Order of operations.

I was planning to ask Modchat for help with checking the roles but all the help is appreciated.

I don't think you should have the roles in a type order.

A specialist might want to be something like a Jailer who gets a chat and can choose if they want to kill their target. That is a protective/killing role.

I would stick to the community guidelines and just slot everyone's powers into the proper position.

General role priority
  1. Copy
  2. Hide
  3. Switch
  4. Block
  5. Redirect
  6. Protect
  7. Miscellaneous
  8. Kill
  9. Recruit
  10. Inspect

Actions lower in the list can be affected by actions higher in the list.

Role priority examples
Copy: Doppelganger
Hide: Commuter, Hider
Switch: Switcher
Block: Roleblocker, Jailor
Redirect: Witch, Lightning Rod, Redirector
Protect: Doctor, Bodyguard, CPR Doctor, Armor Usage (from Armorer), Status Effect Remover, Active Bulletproof
Miscellaneous: Arsonist Douse, Messenger, Janitor, Post Restrictor, Hypnotist, Framer, Absorber, Vote Remover, Vote Thief, Medium, Armorer, Chat Blocker, Vote Spy
Kill: Mafia Faction Kill, Vigilante, Serial Killer, Arsonist Kill, Poisoner, Veteran, CPR Doctor
Recruit: Recruiter, Cultist
Inspect: Tracker, Watcher, Voyeur, Motion Detector, Follower, Alignment Cop, Role Cop

I undestood that you wanted that. Yes, I will make an order of operation when I get all the roles.

Are you going to look at all roles as a whole beforehand or as they come in?

As a whole.

I think looking as whole is the right way to do it. But if town wants a whole bunch of killing roles then that is their choice.

The only other advice I can think of is this. Don't let people have actions that vary with alignment unless they are an investigator. And generally 1 action/command unless they are a conjurer.

Numbers are balanced. Resolved what to do with conflicting actions. I think this is ready to be approved.

Would you allow the neutral to be a recruiter (or a neutral ascetic bulletproof serial killer cop lol)? I think the neutral might be interesting in how they choose their role.

But yeah, I can't really think of anything else to add, it should be fine to go. It's largely gonna breakdown to what people choose.
