Scooby Doo & The Reluctant ONUW

Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf is a 1988 animated made-for-television film produced by Hanna-Barbera for syndication as part of the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 series. It marked Scrappy-Doo's last appearance as a protagonist in the Scooby-Doo franchise to date; he would not appear in a Scooby-Doo production again until the live-action Scooby-Doo film in 2002, where he was the main antagonist. It is also the last appearance of Shaggy's outfit from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo until Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase.

Game Setup Recap:
  1. Roles are shuffled and one is assigned to each player randomly.
  2. 3 roles will be unused and will be referred to as the center cards. Some roles can interact with these cards.
  3. During the night phase, players use their roles and they execute in the order specified below.
  4. Note that a player's final role and alignment can change during the night.

Rules:
  • All applicable MafiEra game rules apply to this game.
  • Votes can only be done at the end of the game and will happen privately, by sending me a PM on Outer Mafia/Era/Discord with the command Vote: [Player Name].
  • A tie results in all players tied being voted out together.
Roles in play, in "wake up" order:

Werewolf Team:

  • Mystic Wolf - At the beginning of the night, the Mystic Wolf wakes up and learns who their partner is. Afterwards, the Mystic Wolf looks at a player's role.
  • Minion - The Minion learns who the Werewolves are. They won't learn who the Minion is. Though they are not a werewolf, the Minion is on the Werewolf team.
Village Team:
  • Mason (x2) - The Masons learn each other's identities.
  • Apprentice Seer - The Apprentice Seer looks at one of the roles in the center.
  • Paranormal Investigator - The P.I. looks at up to two other players' roles, one at a time. If the P.I. views a card that is not on the village team, they will not view any more cards, and will instead become that card.
  • Robber - The Robber trades their role with another player, learns their new role and doesn't do anything else at night, even if the new role could still act.
  • Witch - The Witch may look at one of the roles in the center. If they choose to do so, they must swap that role with any player's role.
  • Troublemaker - The Troublemaker swaps the roles of two other players without looking at them.
  • Drunk - The Drunk swaps their role for any role in the center without looking at it.
  • Insomniac - The Insomniac looks at their own role, to see if it has changed during the night.
  • Revealer - The Revealer learns any other player's role, and if it's not a Werewolf or a Tanner, it will be publicly revealed for the rest of the players.

These roles do not wake up at night:

Werewolf Team:
  • Dream Wolf - The Dream Wolf does not wake up with the other Werewolf and does not know who they are, but he will be known to the Mystic Wolf and the Minion when they wake up.
Village Team:
  • Villager - The Villager is an ordinary role and does not wake up at night.
Neutral:
  • Tanner - The Tanner does not wake up at night; see more below.

Win conditions:
  • Village - The Village wins if at least one Werewolf dies.
  • Werewolves - The Werewolves win if no Werewolves are killed, even if the Minion is killed.
  • Tanner - The Tanner wins if they die. If the Tanner dies and no Werewolves are killed, the Werewolves do not win. If the Tanner dies and all Werewolves are in the center, the Village does not win.

Night Phase has started!

For those who have commands now is the time to use them, I'll process them throughout the night phase (as some have to be procesed before others)

The Day Begins!

Time Remaining:

In case anyone feels like watching the film, don't. Beneath is a fairly accurate representation of what watching it feels like.

Is there any advantage to claiming in a specific order or holding back info?

if I'm reading the witch role correctly we instantly win of the picks a werewolf right?

Do you want to claim witch and you picked a wolf?

Can players choose not to use there role in this game?
no. Although in previous games roles have went unused but I think since Aeleus said all commands are processed that everyone did their thing.

No I am not the witch.

I am waiting to see if there's any advantage to claiming in a certain order I don't know anything about onuw meta.

Do you know how role claims are supposed to go faddy?
Why do you always push your decision making responsabilities to someone else, lol.

well I'm not sure what I should do so I am trying to find answers about how things normally go.
This game in particular has all the roles up there, if you read that you should be able to figure it out. In this game you kinda have to figure out if your role was swapped or not, and trying to find out who is scum.

There is no scum chat right?
No, this game is based on a real life game. Imagine we are all around the table and can look at each other and talk to each other. There are 3 cards in the center of the table face down and we all were given a card at the start of the game.

No.

There are 4 scum roles.

Dream Wolf knows nothing apart from that they are a wolf
Mystic Wolf knows the Dream Wolf and 1 other person's role
Minion knows both Wolves
Tanner knows nothing.

And potentially a 5th scum if the PI investigated a wolf, minion or tanner.

That's me by the way I investigated 2 players both town.

I'm gonna wait to see if they say the same role I saw.

(I have no idea if waiting is pointless or not.)
We have 2 days to solve the game. No rush. How about you give us one name you investigated. Just the name, not the role.

We all agree Scrappy Doo was the beginning of the downfall of Scooby Doo, right?
Scooby Doo had no downfall, just missteps here and there.

I don’t know what’s optimal, but people tend to hold back into or lie to try and smoke out the wolves.

Can players choose not to use there role in this game?
I don’t think so, pretty sure it’s randomized if you don’t submit.

ONUW is pretty fast and loose with people claiming info so it typically ends up being a puzzle by the end of it. right now it's waiting for people coming in and claiming before we can start movin pieces

btw I am a seer.
whatchu see

Sawneeks how do you feel about VA's Switcher claim.

Do you want to fite him?

Hypothetically---someone is switched. Do they see their original role first, then get a message they've been switched and then get the new one?
No, only the Insomniac gets to do that per their role. Everyone saw their role at the start of the night, shenanigans happened, and then we all have to figure out who is what now.

What this means is that you are possibly not the role you started with - you may have even swapped sides!

So, yknow, if you're a wolf claim now because we have 3 switchers and we for sure gotcha

Doesn't the wolf have to wait until after they are the switch target to say they started as the wolf?

so far we are only aware of 1 switch for sure.

No one apart from the insomniac has confirmation.

As Salva said it is best to think like it is a physical game around a table.

All the actions happen in order. So for example in real world everyone has their eyes closed the first thing that happens is the Mystic wolf opens their eyes and the dream wolf raises a hand. And the Mystic wolf can look at any card they want.

Once all the actions happen we are all still sitting at the table with a card face down in front of us.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic. The Wolf won't claim unless they are for sure not the wolf anymore :p
Ah. OK. Well, interesting. Because Jman was one of my switch targets.
Jman is popular! He was my switch target too.

did you swap him with monkey also?

you can't mess with me like this I am exhausted and not thinking straight. Also the rules are very confusing.

@Vincent Alexander your also joking right?

I am not really thinking before posting right now I am just trying to figure out how the game is played.

multiple people can get the same card right?

No, I am being serious. You were a switch target. And I'm in the same boat. I really need to watch a youtube video on this game real quick to get my head on straight about it. I think someone posted a video in the main thread giving an example. Anyone know what I'm talking about so it can be shared again? :)

Sorry, ONUW is chaotic like this and it's a different beast than normal mafia.

This is an open set up so every single role posted in the OP are the only roles in the game. Each role can only be in this game once unless otherwise specified (like Mason which needs 2 people). So there is only one PI, one Drunk, one Insomniac, etc.

Each role also acts in order they are post above. So you end up with something that would look like this around a table;
Everyone secretly looks at their own role card.
Each role is asked to 'wake up' and take their action.
Once that's done, everyone wakes up and we have to figure out who the werewolf is in order to win.
When time runs out, we vote.

Good evening ladies and gents.

What is it with Jman and always rolling investigation roles lol. At least that clears up Stu.

Imagining sitting at a table with you and Sorian for 48 hours straight surely sends a chill down my spine. Joking of course.

Okay, the first 3 minutes on this video alone really helped me feel better about this. This game is bananas. I love it.

If one player has a mason card and the other mason card is in the center what happens?
They wake up and don't see a partner
Therefore the mason knows the other card was in the centre to start the game.
They don't know which card it is.
