Thanks for making the board, Yn! <3

Welcome, Brazil! It can be a little overwhelming at first but once it gets going you'll get the hang of it. That's also why I'm here to help out with any questions you have or if you get lost. :>

Have you ever played Mafia/Werewolf before or is this your first time?

Sawneeks

Also, since I'll be a bit in and out all day, if you have any questions before the game officially starts tomorrow just drop 'em here and I'll answer them before tomorrow!

I've only played short Mafia games with drunk friends, and those usually ended because someone drank too much and said something they clearly shouldn't have, haha.

I have read through some of the resources in the Mafia OT, and everything seems pretty straightforward. I guess I'll need to see how the other players actually interact with each other for a bit before any real doubts arise.

Thanks for helping :)

Hahaha, drunk posting happens here too a little more than you might think. Scum may not always be that obvious but it does happen!

Good luck and have fun with Day 1! It's usually a uh...interesting point in the game. I'll still be here if you ever need anything though. :>

Things are weird! Haha. It's good fun, though. Can't wait for more information to come out.

Now that I think I've successfully played the part of a clueless newbie, I have a couple of questions, if you'll indulge me:

- Are there powers that activate based on the game master's judgement of a player's actions? An example: for Mafia Player #1's power to activate, the game master needs to believe he actively convinced someone in town to vote against another town player. I guess what I'm asking is if there are abilities with subjective activation criteria. I understand that this can vary from theme to theme, but is something like this even allowed?
- How common is it, really, for players to actually be strategizing with future games in mind?
- Do you feel people tend to trust you more the more active you are? Or is that really not a factor?

Thank you for your help <3

Sawneeks

Of course! And if you ever need a place for notes or just type your thoughts out you are free to use this as well. This is a closed room so no other player can see what's in here, the only prying eyes are Retro, Spider, and I believe Stan. But they're mostly harmless. n_n

however to answer your questions:

-For this community no, we don't typically have abilities or power roles that are subjective like that. They are usually straight forward 'you can do X ability every night' or some variation of it like 'every odd or even night'. There have been powers with certain activation requirements in the past but they're usually set in stone like 'you can use X ability once Y Role is dead/removed' or 'your ability can be used after Day X'.

-Not at all common for this community. There have been people to joke about it and there might be some who alter their play slightly so they can differentiate from their past playstyle but I don't know of anyone who has acted differently to set-up a future game. A lot of this community is based around the past rather than the future, you've probably already noticed a few people referencing how other's acted in previous games and how that's a basis for voting or scum reading someone. That's much, much more common here even though some try not to focus so much on 'the meta'.

-Yes and no. When you're very active people tend to scrutinize you more since you're always vocal and there's just MORE to look at but if you pass that 'phase' people do tend to trust you more. Many in this community in the past have felt if you're vocal you are likely to be Town since it's much, much harder to keep up a lie when you're talking so much. Being open and forthcoming with your thoughts and questions is seen as trying to help Town solve the game and find Scum so it makes people trust you more and these people typically fall under the 'active' category. There are those who don't post much but have very insightful posts and are trusted though, so it can go both ways.

Who could've seen the guy who claimed to be the doctor getting killed? Haha.

And... there's this:

"The BEHELIT is in your possession, today/tonight you will be unable to perform any normal role actions, and no day/night actions will effect you (though you can still vote and be lynched)."

"If Salva was telling the truth and gave the item to Lux, then it should have been randomly assigned to someone."

Is this true?

I'm currently leaning towards not revealing I have the item. I don't wanna do what Salva apparently did D1, and I honestly still can't get a read on whether he's scum or not considering what happened with it.

Sawneeks

little green dog
So THAT'S what the Behelit is. huh. i was curious about it myself to be honest.

Also I checked with your benevolent rulers Stanley and Spoders and they have forbid me from answering if that is true or not. Sorry, Brazil. :>

Oh, no problem. Glad you checked first! Haha. By the way that player worded it, it seemed as if if was common knowledge... and the actual flavor for the item doesn't say anything about that. But it makes sense to not know for sure.

Now I'm trying to parse my thoughts regarding Salva.

He gave Lux the item with the knowledge that he was an even day doctor. So he knew he'd nullify his powers. And it was kind of obvious that Lux was going to be targeted... but maybe he thought Lux would already be protected by having it that night.

Hmmmmm hahaha

Sawneeks

You got this, Brazil. o/

trying to figure out the puzzle is the best ( and most frustrating ) part!

Sawneeks

Also, I'm sure Stan and Yn are fine with it, but you'll probably still have to Highlight the command to pass the Egg if you're going to post it here.

I believe to do it here you just have to change the text color to red.

Brazil, it will be passed on to SalvaPot, as per your instructions.

You can still change your mind until the deadline.

We seem to be pretty doomed. Obviously I gotta wait to see if any town player has actual useful information when the day comes... but right now scum is either being extremely smart, extremely lucky, or both.

People are probably gonna focus on Geno for a lynching, and he'll end up being an actual cop, haha.

Sawneeks

little green dog
You guys are just going to be starting up Day 3, don't write Town off just yet. :>

Also, be wary of always waiting for a Town PR to give you info to work off of. There's been a lot of instances where Town waits for info that will never come just due to how the PRs play out so it's good to work with what you have now and go from there. If you get PR info that helps you find Scum - awesome! - just don't hold back and wait for it to appear since that very rarely happens.

With that in mind, did you have any plans going into Day 3? Anybody you wanted to focus on, anybody you trust more than others, etc. etc.

It keeps getting worse! Hahaha.

That's good advice. I'll try starting to be more active today... someone may need to start probing people like Terra was doing.

As I stated before D2 was over, SalvaPot is the only one I trust completely. It may be a bet, but it's one I'm gambling on. I actually do think Geno is a cop, too, but he seems irresponsible.

I'll post a list here with my reads on everyone... as soon as people start showing up for D3, haha. It'd be a waste to think too much about it right now for them to Geno it up in their first D3 post in a couple of minutes hahaha

Good good good. :>

Mistakes will always happen and mislynches are inevitable but the only way to catch Scum is to take things into your own hands and solve the puzzle. A little side thing that has helped me in the past as Town, but when you try to find Scum also look for the people you think are Town. It's easier to find people you trust a little more than others and it can help you reduce the list of people to look at. Say if 7 people out of 10 feel Townie and you relatively trust them, that means those 3 you don't trust might be worth looking at to figure out why you don't trust them as much as the others.

It doesn't always lead to Scum but it's a good place to start!

My current (and only) 'solid' reads are as this:

Scum:
- Geno

Town:
- SalvaPot
- SaucyKaz

Pathetic :lol

I'm considering revealing that the egg is still in play to put some pause into scum (who were steamrolling us). Otherwise, I'll have to find a smart way to avoid turmoil's questioning...

Sorry about not getting back sooner! Was out for most of the evening yesterday.

No, that's good! It's a place to start and any lead/direction helps in a game like this where everything can be a little chaotic.

"Brazil I felt like you were coasting, then you suddenly started these huge posts. I see your mentor is Sawneeks, I can see how she can coach you to that end. We've played as scum teammates before and she was awesome so I won't be surprised at all if you're scum."

I was catching up and this gave me a good laugh. Sorry, Brazil. :p

Your bad rep is rubbing off on me! Hahaha.

Oh, and: fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Sawneeks

He is sort of right though, you have gotten to posting a lot more/bigger posts! They're some good work too, very open and honest ( even if you're holding back and teasing the Behelit ). :>

but yeah, mislynches suck. They do leave you with a lot to look at though if you decide to! You've got votes on both sides, the one who didn't get lynched, reasons for votes, etc. etc. to go through and decide what to focus on.

Thanks for the compliment! :)
It feels like I've come such a long way from trying to RP back in D1, haha. And I'm really into it too: I think I might be having more fun playing mafia than with the actual videogames I'm currently going through. I caught myself thinking really hard about Geno's flip while showering earlier today, hahaha.

This list of people who vote for Geno is really nice:

SalvaPot
CoolestSpot
rac
turmoil7
ohyeah
DCPat
Benghis Khan
Kalor

It includes literally everyone I was previously eyeing (ohyeah, turmoil7, rac, Benghis Khan, CoolesSpot). I wonder about Kalor (the one who switched votes at the last moment) - he could be scum trying to seem like he was voting against his interests, but was forced to switch over. Considering how long he took to make the switch, risking getting CoolestSpot killed, though, it kinda feels like every single mafia player had already voted for Geno.

I'm glad that there's at least one player I know is town (SalvaPot) in there, too, because it shortens the list of suspects.

Now I gotta wait and see if I'm still alive, haha.

One of us. One of us.

Welcome to the addiction, the Mafiera shirt and hat are free of charge. The amount of time you'll now spend playing forum mafia is not. :p

Sawneeks

I will say this current....crazy is not really indicative of what our games are usually like lol. Role Madness games are an entirely different beast than normal games but they are some of my favorite ones to play in. It's like solving a puzzle where every piece won't stop moving. ( ._.)

You have an interesting case in front of you though, just always be aware of everything happening in a game. :>

That's an interesting analogy, haha.

I'm back to doubting literally everyone, which I guess is good. Now I'm waiting for everyone's responses to what I said.

Sawneeks

little green dog
Yeah, that's the part about playing Town that can be rough. You have to find the weird balance between never trusting people 100% but also categorize people by how likely they are to be Town so you know who to focus on. Finding the balance that works for you comes with experience I feel. :x

What were you aiming for with your self-vote? I'm guessing between what you say here vs what you say there you were going for reactions?

For some weird reason I spent the past few days completely unable to log in here :(
My home PC can't access the forum anymore. I'm finally back in now that I'm back at the office. I need to talk to Retro.

I self-voted to create a sense of urgency for town. I was really uncomfortable with letting CoolestSpot run around creating false evidence, and felt that ending that day early was the best thing that could happen.

If ohyeah and Benghis are really masons, I'm completely at a loss now :(
Both have been playing so erratically and nonsensically that they were easily my top suspects.

Sawneeks

little green dog
Yeah, the forums have been up and down the past few days. From what I know it's an issue with the host and not the forum itself but I'd still recommend talking to Retro if it keeps going.

Well, getting your top suspects knocked out does really suck but it does save you from having to look at them if you believe their claim. If you do, that's now 2 people you don't feasibly have to worry about! Leaving everybody else for you to go through which does still really suck, it at least lowers the list a little bit. :>

You're in a bit of an odd spot though. I've been keeping up and you really are at a crossroads of where you can go next and losings suspects can kill momentum. Just know, Scum aren't always the ones who act erratic and nonsensical, often time's I've found it's Town who act that way because they have nothing to hide and Scum are the one's who usually try to 'play it straight' because they are the ones who don't want to die.

WE IN THIS YESSSSSS

WOOO THE READS WERE RIGHT

Now I'm pumped.

That's actually a really fair point. I'm always careful with my wording because everyone's being judged all the time, but I'd be triple careful if I was scum.

Sawneeks

little green dog
Congrats! Another Scum down. :>

And exactly. When a Townie dies it's a loss but it's alright, when a Scum dies it's a huge blow to the Team since they are the minority in the game. They want to live at all costs and will try to blend in as best they can.

I have to ask: did you run over ohyeah's cat?

I've never seen someone tunnel so hard! Dude's like a Republican chasing after John Podesta or something

My God

Sawneeks

little green dog
Hahahahahahaha, that's the best analogy I've ever heard.

I may have run over several cats during my time as Scum. ( ._.)

Sawneeks

little green dog
I hope so too! I've been enjoying watching you grow into being Town as the game goes on, so i hope one day we get to play together on the same side.

also I laughed at 'Sawneeks Mode'. Gotta be careful with that, might remind people of the cats. :p

At this point, people trying to pile up on me would be a great source of reads, haha.

And thanks :D

I hope there's just one left.

I'm not sure if you're even allowed to give me an opinion on this, but I'm going to ask anyway:

Do you think it's possible that town and scum both have messenger roles, but one is able to send huge messages, and the other isn't?

Thanks :(

Hi brazil~
This was raised in another mentorship chat, but you may edit your posts after the game ended and you may also request for this chat to be kept private. Let me know your preferences? Thanks :) Im asking now so we can prep for when the game does end.... which shouldn't be too long away now... Haha

I'm sorry I missed this message! I'm fine with it being opened up. Let history be my shame.

Thanks again, Sawneeks <3
