Yeah, I'm town
Nice try, Stuart. If you're going to fake claim, though, best not to rely on a result that scum would know whether they'd checked or not.

Now why would scum need an alignment check
Just what I was thinking, actually. Looks like we have a third party going...

Yeah Stuart was never winning that claim battle but it looked like he was going to die anyway. At least he got the real cop to out which is a win for mafia.

Oh, a scum cop, haha. I didn't even think of that and I was entertaining really depressing scenarios where scum was so powerful town needed two cops and were about to lynch them both :( Hopefully doc can save Geno or scare off mafia with threat of protection for a while. Though if the roleblocker is scum aligned they'll probably sit on Geno.

Alexem

Yeah, I'm town
I can't help but think that if Stuart had backed off and not made that claim, there'd have been a small possibility that he could have shifted attention away to Xbro (unless, of course, that would be something to avoid...). Still, at least he managed to flush out Geno in the process, so it's not all bad news for scum.

They already mislynched one information role on day 1.

There are very good reasons as to why scum needed a cop.

I admit I haven’t had much time to keep up with the thread but that last second interrogation of Stuart by ZPH..
Cant tell if it’s a good excuse for Town to get as much info from a potential scum before lynching or an incredible way to throw off the scum scent

Spoilers please? Unless you changed your mind that is :p

I'm not going to say anything before the next day starts.

We just saw one mafia get lynched. Now would be the time to guess their potential partners by looking at what they were doing around end of day.

Everyone is scum

Imagine the jerry springer kinda twist. Someone should make a game with only mafia and neutrals.

You lied to me Faddy! You gave me false expectations, I'm gonna call the Internet police!

Hi everyone!

So some defense from me:

I've never heard of Mafia until last month when my fiancee, Donna introduced me to it (after I got curious by what she was doing with Sneakers).

So when people say "Why would x" or any other questioning of my reads, I pretty much have no idea what people look for in reads in Mafia games so it was quite easy to call me out on mine and get at the newbie.

I even TRIED to adjust my playstyle on D2 after my confrontation with Nicole on D1 but then I get called out for not challenging or pressuring people. I'm not much of a confident or assertive person, even online so challenging people like that doesn't come easy to me even in a game like this.

Also I get called out for being defensive but I also get called out for not defending myself. Thanks for that <_<

Regardless, I had fun and will hopefully do better next game I participate in.

I also won't be giving scum-sided spoilers until Faddy says it's okay :) He's already warned me, this chat is still in a no spoiler mode

Being scum in a first game would be really hard ): But you did bait out the town cop super prematurely plus the other town investigative role was lynched, so that really helped your team.

For the not defensive vs defensive, I think you looked overly defensive when you got suspicious of people who voted you and pushed them, like with SweetNicole and nin. But then you let stuff by you, like Brazil's unexplained vote. So it was all just a bit inconsistent. But feeling out the whole meta what behavior is scummy game is really hard, I also have trouble with how to act.

It's good you tried to adjust. Scum chat probably should've done more to help you out with developing reads and defending yourself if you were having issues with inexperience. I'm glad you had fun regardless :>

Hehe, yeah I had fun.

When crafting the claim, I figured being as honest was possible would help as it would make people think when it turns out I was telling the truth (considering how people didn't believe my claim much).

Also we hoped if there was a town cop, it would bait them out but we didn't expect it to actually happen haha. That was just great.

I wouldn't mind being scum again but I kinda hope for town next game :)

Oh and my attack on Nin which went ignored mostly felt really good haha.

And Faddy's flavour for both the death of the train and the death of me was great. Including the pictures. :D

Well you could have blocked the community chest space.

But even then I don't think you guys were worried about being the target of the vigi card.

The god damn N2 curse hits again.

I'm happy with the way I played. Almost everyone town read me.

With the way things have been played so far. I don't see Mafia winning.

Town will probably have a few more Mislynchs with Mafia may or may not getting their kill (one of the remaining mafia members have a one shot unlimited range, the rest is limited) but I can't see Mafia winning without major luck now.

"Geno falls for the fake counter claim,"

Can anyone say why it's being called a fake counter claim? Serious question because it was a real claim as shown by the flavour text/my role pm that was posted.

Well Geno knows you aren't town because you are claiming the same role as him. And since no one really believed your claim he didn't need to out himself as the town investigator.

Yeah, I meant the calling it fake part XD.

It was a desperate attempt for me to not get lynched but it was still a true claim lol.

Grizz was also one of the most active in the game. For all the coasting talk, without Grizz, the game may be quieter now.

Town has pretty good position to get rest of scum - but they need to step up their game. They allowed me to control the conversation for most of D1 and D2 without much contention.

Lol.

Our roleblocker is the MVP for power role usage.

I thought you guys might pull it out to keep you alive when the community chest kill was brought up.

You never explicitly said it but you all seemed to be worried about a tracker/watcher role.

I mean, the possibility was always there - but you can't plan for everything. Our priority was to make sure we wouldn't accidentally block/jail Geno. That would have been a major blunder.

Just like investigating the same token/player we kill in N1 >_>

With how the map is set, there's lot of moving parts in the game that we can't plan for. It all came down to hoping we wouldn't be screwed, because we didn't have any roles to actually counter any of the map mechanics outside the RB.

The Bear

Especially when half of our team wasn't even able to grab any of the Chance/Community Chest cards.

As a note, I'm not blaming the game design or balance, just making observations. We can't plan and predict everything - we could only work based on intel present.

So I still think our night actions were about as optimised as we could hope for. Our hands were quite limited.

Yes the map mechanics are all pretty much town sided.

Mafia are in real trouble here since the two players left have the shortest kill range and one of them is out of the fray. And you don't know ANY tokens so are in severe danger of missing night kills. If you jailed the community chest space you would be in a decent position.

But really I think the downfall so far has been too much bussing. At some point all of you were pressuring Stuart instead of just letting him slip into the background like ketkat has.

You have to think about long term goals though - it was pretty clear Stuart would become main lynch target D2 with or without our help. It would have looked really bad later once he would have eventually flipped, and the rest of the team was ignoring/outright supporting him.

The Bear

Obligatory Gay Bear of the Society
If you bus, you can gain much better standing in towns eyes later - especially once the potential investigative roles are gone (and two were already dead). I think I would have had a fairly good position at least until D5 or so, but you can't plan for possible vigi shot, potential doctor, making sure Geno isn't jailed and a potential tracker at the same time.

But you bussed so hard it was expected and a town saw through enough to use a vigi shot on you.

Okay then:

Sophia and DCPat.

Sophia: Range of 6 for NK, has a one shot unlimited Range kill
DCPat: Role blocker. Blocks all actions going into or leaving a space. Forget their range for kill, I think it's probably 12 like mines since Sophia is the short armed goon with the shortest kill range

Some info about who the scum mates are and their powers, range stuff.

I'm honestly not so sure about that. It's easier to see I was busdriving hard when you know all the roles, but town is fickle. Town is paranoid. Town can change it's mind ten times. So my game plan this time was to become a town leader and control the conversation, especially after seeing how inactive the rest of the game was.

The Bear

Obligatory Gay Bear of the Society
If DCPat dies, scum might as well give up. Sophia's range of 6 is simply not enough, and she doesn't even have any other powers other than removing restrictions once. Honestly Faddy, why was her role so neutered?

The Bear

Obligatory Gay Bear of the Society
if Pat dies, I could see Sophia agreeing to give up the game, if she ends up being last scum, she has simply really unfair chances against her. I know I would definitely think about that if I was in her shoes.

Of course I didn't say that in the scum chat though, better to keep spirits up.

I agree on this. Once Sophias power has been used up, if DCPat dies, Scum might as well give up since there will be multiple no-NKs if she survives that long.

The Bear

Obligatory Gay Bear of the Society
Especially once tokens start to spread out, her range will cut most of the tokens off. Combine that with we not knowing which token is connected to which player, she will most likely miss every night.

The scum team was designed too much around me staying alive.

The people are still assuming I was bluffing/lying/faking lol. Even bringing out the fact that I can still kill and may have killed Royal because of that lol

Lul had 2 scum scans unlucky. The way I play cop is always act scummy but not scummy enough to warrant a lynch, that way you kind of avoid getting killed.
Also I couldn't not counter claim, I wouldn't be there to see how it would end up. If they believed him there was a chance I was going to get roleblocked again and that would lead nowhere.

The cop claim got you killed though. If you didn't do that, you'd probably not have been NK'd.

if I was alive and you hadn't have claimed, I'd probably have pushed for Brazil or Nicole as the NK. Next to Grizzly, they are probably the next two in terms of town leaders I feel.

Your picks were super lucky, especially since you had to essentially shoot in the dark.

I think you could have been a great town leader in this game, but I think people were not ready to trust you due to your aggressivity.

Alexem

Yeah, I'm town
I'm surprised that it took nearly two hours for the implications of Stuart's role to come under discussion. If we do have neutrals involved, it'll be interesting to see what they can bring to the mix now - especially if they can use either of the other teams to their advantage.

I also note that Sophia was the first to bring it up...

I've considered the idea of Neutrals being in the game since the start. I do wonder who they are though and what their win conditions are.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think Scum are screwed.

I feel like DCPat will probably get lynched before Sophia and Sophia without her power will lead to misses. Unless Town lynches town after town after town with maybe a neutral in there. Scum isn't winning.

CrimsonFist

Neutral Vanilla
It's very normal for gafia games to have at least one neutral, not having any is more unusual.

Giving scum a direct investigative role for them does stand out though.

Sophia would have been my first guess for scum, although mostly for meta due to her normally being pretty high activity

Maybe that means there is a neutral that is a direct threat to Scum.

Only reason I can think of.

Can I just say that calling people out for mechanic speculation in a game with unique mechanics feels rather lazy scum reading.

It's just very NAI to me yet people use it as scum tells. Feels lazy.

I'm inclined to agree with this - I came across the same thing in Cluedo. To me, as long as it's done with care so as not to give too much detail away to scum, it makes sense to know where you stand early on when there are unusual mechanics at play - it's not as if there's a lot else to discuss on D1, anyway.

Right now, my suspicion is that although town are in a better state to take a couple of mislynches, scum are setting themselves up to push for lynch chains - get someone hit, then blame one of the voters. Actually, I'm a bit surprised that they've not followed up on Brazil's suggestion of going after Donna if Stuart was shown to be lying.

Well at least it doesn't seem like there are any Scum people on townies radars yet but things could change by tomorrow night. We'll see.

Alexem

Yeah, I'm town
DCPat and Sophia seem doing a good job of lying low while keeping involved. I see DCPat's pushing the Xbro angle - I can see Fandorin pushing back against that, though, as he saw Grizzly questioning him earlier. I could see Apollo getting lined up for an alternative train at this rate as well.

cabot

Why.
mechanics speculation being scummy is in the same realm as usng meta on a player.

It's fine as a substitute to an argument (for example, you've done nothing but discuss mechanics) but as the sole basis of a vote, it's fairly weak and the person being targeted with the argument should be able to rebuke it.

cabot

Why.
Think about how Bear used it, it seemed a reasonable argument to make as Town, but it also helped scum in finding lynch targets.

In a non-standard mechanic based game, it's definitely a red flag if someone is pushing players discussing mechanics.

Sorry, I had to drop out due to some problems with my relationship. As much as I love mafia, I want to set my priorities straight.

Alexem

Yeah, I'm town
No need to apologise for that, Nicole - life comes first, mafia can wait. Hope things work out.

You are the Top Hat (Anarchist). You have no alignment

Even if the revolution succeeds the winners will be the new ruling class. We need to go further and build a completely new society from the ground up...

You are an Anarchist set on destroying society so it can be re-built and reformed for the people. Your goal is to destroy over £800 of Property Spaces by setting bombs. Each night you can place a bomb that will detonate the following night.

You are a rule-breaker so you can place a Bomb before the game officially begins and will ignore all attempts to be put in Jail.

Your bomb will fail if it is discovered so avoid occupied spaces.

Actions
Send Command Bomb:[Property Space] . The bomb will detonate the following night.
You can also Vote

Win Condition
You win when you destroy £800 worth of property

So it actually makes perfect sense that Muffin is town reading Sophia and DCPat because that's who I was actually reading as scum (there's a reason I never did a "town read" list, only scum targets). Once I confirmed myself town with the Stuart lynch, who I was fairly certain was scum from the get-go, I was going to coast off of the easiest targets, so starting with Xbro who is an easy target with his non-votes.

Reading the scum as town helps ensure you don't get night killed, which is really the biggest fear with this neutral role.

Muffin's in a good spot to pull off a win. @Faddy can confirm, but kings cross station should still blow up tonight, putting him @ 520 total, so he could theoretically win in one night if he gambles. He can easily win in two nights, though.

@Grizzly did DCPat RB me at any point? My bomb didn't go off on Mayfair, so I wasn't sure if it was a roleblocker or if there is another role out there that can counter the anarchist.

The Bear

so either town RB or someone else counters :"(

We did consider NK'ing you multiple times, but I was always against it since you kept being very nice to me in the game, haha. Same reason I wasn't interested in NK'ing ketkat.

Wouldn't Mayfair have been occupied night 1? So it would have been discovered.

n0: set bomb Green 3rd, blows up n1
n1: set bomb mayfair, blows up n2 (did not blow up w/ space unoccupied)

We did consider NK'ing you multiple times, but I was always against it since you kept being very nice to me in the game, haha. Same reason I wasn't interested in NK'ing ketkat.

That's why I didn't push you or brazil lol I figured one of you was a scum town leader, and I didn't want to rock the boat and get myself nkd

In all honesty, my Apollo reads were just really weak. I needed to get some scumhunting content in to look more contributive, but I was too lazy to properly read Apollo. Was fearing it would bite me later, but now it's userful.
