How do you do, fellow mafia?

Evening.

Yay! I finally got invited to a chat
611246456732647446.gif

I assume this was your doing? In which case I am an interesting choice.
I, too, have always wanted to chat to the people who feel weird about me at night

Yep, this is my ability. I'm curious if you were told my character name or just that there was a chat set up?

Anyway I chose you because you seemed to be the person who most suspected me, plus I wanted to pick someone in a similar timezone, plus I wanted to pick someone who I felt would survive at least a few days so I would have some kind of backup (and vice versa if I thought you were town after this) in the thread if I was ever potentially being voted out.

I thought this ability was super obviously town so it would ease some of your suspicions about me, but that's from my pov so might not be as obvious to you?

Ephidel

How do you do, fellow mafia?
Well, that would depend if talking to me is all your ability lets you do.

I'm going to answer your last statement there by digressing, a little.
I was introduced to mafia and this community by Lokiduck, I don't know if you're familiar with her. One of the first things she made me do was read a somewhat infamous gossip chat. If you're not familiar with it, it would be this one.
So no, it's not super obviously town.

But I'm here now, so I guess there's no point worrying about that.

I always thought chats were fun to read through after the fact, so I'm up for chat related fun and games and I'm not going to turn down a chance to get to know you better
814061687807279134.gif

And no, I was not told your character name. I was just told I'd been invited to a gossip chat.

Zem

Yeah I give a name during the day and a chat gets set up with that person for the night phase. That's all I can do.

I've only read the first page of that chat, will read the rest in a bit but I assume they turn out to be mafia?

I'm Colonel Campbell (I don't know if you've played MGS to understand how townie he would be?), to be honest my power feels quite weak as I don't expect to get much info from people (understandably so if they aren't 100% sure I'm town with them), especially since I just saw that thread you linked and it looks like the people I invite all use the same thread. I thought it would be seperate threads but that means you should not role reveal or hint towards your role in my opinion in case I do invite a scum player in, which could be you! :scream:

I don't really care if people know my character name, it's only really useful for me if I'm being voted out, and I think my role isn't powerful enough for scum to target me if they find out, and if I do invite one then it's pretty obvious what my role is :D

Zem

Anyway for today

bHOWOOXIWmLF.gif

the longer it went on with Ty not putting up a defence and not role revealing the more I thought he was a neutral or scum. So that reveal actually surprised me quite a bit. Awful day for town with Feign and Ty gone so easily and Jman putting out his power role so quickly.

I'm not sure where my suspicions lie right now but I guess everyone on the Ty train would need to be looked at which includes me, should definitely be 1 or 2 scum in there and I think the others will have gone on Zeke (since I think the argument for him is poor that Faddy came up with) or not voted / voted for someone on 1 or 2 votes.

Hey, how strong your power is depends entirely on how well you wield it and how you pick your victims gossip buddies.
If you can use the time to win people over or sus people out that's potentially a huge boon. How charismatic are you feeling?

I guess I should try to clarify after what you said above, are you expecting to populate this chat with multiple people, or swap us out for a new chat buddy each night?
Because yeah, as fun as it would be to create a little group in here, I'd be more than a little wary at what I put down when I don't know who might stumble across it next.

Zem

This is how we solve the game. Good old Google.
Hmm good question, I hadn't actually thought about that. Off the top of my head I'd probably rotate people if someone didn't give me much info, but if they felt confident to role reveal then I'd keep them in the chat until one of us dies or we agree to invite someone else in.

I thought it would just be one person at a time but that thread you linked had more, but I don't actually know if that's possible for my role.

Oh god it was not a good start.
I had such high hopes when Feign actually got everyone talking so fast, I don't think I've actually seen people focus down on D1 like that before. And then it all fell apart.

Feign's claim is so weird in retrospect knowing it was absolute horseshit. I really bought the bomb thing.

I already said it in thread, I'm not entirely sold on Jman, but I can't deny that early claims are in character for him. And unfortunately if he's telling the truth then he's probably not going to be around long which just makes it even worse.

Ty4on is a bit of a gut punch. He wasn't my first choice but I thought the case against him was pretty good... and, if I'm honest, being made by people I was looking on kinda favourably probably helped.
It seemed so odd that he just... dropped out. I really thought he was going to be scum going i so as not to drag his team with him, but no, he just had the world's least believable claim to deal with
767835171775840308.png

I feel kind of awful now, but I guess it had to be someone.

Includes me too
380215094052913152.png

Yeah, there have to be scum in there, it's too big a group for there not to be. On the up side there was actually quite a lot of interaction there. Obviously not... much of an up side for him, considering that helped me vote for him, but maybe some of it will read better with the benefit of hindsight?
620401428858667057.png

Not sure how much time I'll have for that but I'll have to at least skim it, I owe my vote that much.

If you're really not sure might be worth shooting Faddy a PM and seeing if he's willing or able to clear it up

I was going to ask if you wanted to elaborate on how you felt about Faddy and managed to transpose the names

damn what a twist in that other thread haha :thisisfine:

My role is just Town Gossip but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Scum Gossip or something like that Arsonist one. Would be funny if you could be invited to both.

I would have believed Ty if he said he was Tony Hawk, I think it's too weird to come up with and it makes sense flavour wise. A bit annoying he gave up. Makes me lean town on Shirou who was practically begging him to reveal.

I'm not sure on Jman either, if he knows there's an arsonist or a standard serial killer then his play to reveal as the bomb guy would be a good one if he was scum and from what I've seen of him, a play like that wouldn't be that surprising. There's also a chance he saw the talk about a bomber and took a chance with a fake reveal. We'll see soon though, I don't think scum can keep him alive for long as he's too powerful otherwise.

Faddy is an odd one. My gut early on with him wasn't good reading his posts, and his thing with Zeke is odd, in my eyes he's clearly misinterpreting everything Zeke has said about Maol.

Another one I'm wary of is ATP. The way he went at chuggernaut and saying "if Ty flips town I'm coming for you" felt like he knew Ty was going to flip town and was setting up the next days battle. I mean that seems too obvious but who knows, also wouldn't surprise me if it was two scum putting on an act.

Zem

My role is just a 1 to 1 thing, if I invite someone the next night then it's a brand new chat with no access to this one. Which does give us a bit more freedom I think if you wanted to share stuff but I'm not going to push for that. And I think the only way I can prove that's how it works is by inviting someone new tomorrow and then you the night after which will show either a new chat or this chat again.

Ephidel

For a certain value of funny :thisisfine:

Eh, if he'd said he was Tony Hawk I don't think I'd have managed to get over how weird it would have sounded. In past games when people have started crossing franchise barriers it hasn't usually been a good sign. You're right though, Shirou was desperate for him to put up a fight.

Interesting observation about ATP, I actually hadn't noticed him teeing up a potential push off the back of the ty4on votes
590133034007658506.png

He felt pretty aggressive overall? It was a little funny to see him accusing Chuggs of being aggressive while he was doing the same himself. Also managed to keep off the main votes by sticking with that one.

Faddy felt pretty hard to follow, but maybe I wasn't trying hard enough. The whole Zeke/Maol/Faddy thing just looked like a mess of people reading the same thing different ways

There was a tony hawk rip-off in MGS2, which I also think shows just how weird some of these role names might get. I was wondering if this was going to be based off just the first MGS but it doesn't look like it.

Yeah ATP got a bit aggressive towards the end which is what he was accusing Chuggs of doing, then setting him up for tomorrow so I expect those two to go at it again.

The Maol / Faddy / Zeke thing was hard to follow and it only clicked when Zeke quoted the posts. Maol said he thought Zeke was town but then also said he'd shoot him if he could, then Zeke called this out as not making sense, then Faddy jumped in and said it was "omgus" (which I had to google) when that clearly wasn't the case. For some reason Faddy kept missing the point which was winding Zeke up I think.

Do you think Aeleus would have pushed the Sparks thing so much if they were scum and knew Ty was not scum? I'd have to look at the timing but they do eventually go for Ty and drop the Sparks thing.

It's hard to say. If they knew Ty and Sparks were both town it's not like it would really make a difference whether you've got two trains running or one, you get town to vote for town either way. The illusion of choice.
And had the Sparks train actually worked it would have been lambasted as lazy and there'd still have been enough suspicion floating around from the actual arguments made for ty to go for him again tomorrow.

The original argument (that Sparks can be an anti town presence regardless of alignment) is still something I feel to be true, but the rest felt weird. The rousing speech was amusing. The direct appeal for a bunch of us to vote alongside them was... interesting. Not sure it was the best group to target -- only got one bite, after all, though I was tempted because they're right that he's probably going to hang on the edge of all the reads list as this little unreadable zone that occupies thoughts best directed elsewhere until he does finally flip.

Timing wise they said 4-5 hours before EoD they were sticking with Sparks until the final hour, and they stuck to that, they switched their vote shortly into the final hour. At that point only Kopite had joined them on Sparks. It clearly wasn't going to take off.

Honestly, a Sparks vote is a weird thing to push vehemently in any situation. That's why I eventually just decided to be blunt and ask if they actually had a reason for it, but that didn't get an answer.
Maybe they knew it wouldn't take off all along. It kind've engulfed their whole day of play. Maybe they just wanted to look busy.

Well, at least that means you're probably not collecting a group of people to set them all on fire. Always good to check

I do appreciate how open you're being with me about your role and do feel somewhat better knowing future guests won't be scavenging through our chat, but I'm still going to think a little on whether I'm going to respond in kind for the moment.

I'll be sleeping soon because it's 1am and I have work in the morning but I'll check back later.

Yeah I actually didn't disagree with Aeleus in that from what I've seen Sparks can be quite anti-town when town. I just wasn't feeling that vote on day one. I'm not sure what to make of it either, like you said it could have just been done to look busy or could have been genuine. I started to think maybe Sparks was a condition of his role or something but that's less likely than just having a bit of fun day one.

Do you have any town leans? Ty being town was a bit gutting because I was really hoping the people voting him could be town leaned but nope. So I'm struggling with that, I think Shirou is likely town but after that I have nothing really, just now suspicions. I wish I stuck with my Nin suspicion now.

Zem

This is how we solve the game. Good old Google.
Walking the dog let me gather some thoughts about day one, I'll probably post this in the thread if I'm still alive but I think it's good to get it written down so I can refer to it later if needed:

The Ty flip makes me more suspicious of people than increasing possible town lean which sucks. Everyone in this train needs to be treated with suspicion which includes myself, however I feel like the earlier votes are more suspect than the later ones. Why? Because Ty got more suspicious to me the longer the day went on with him not putting up a defence, getting fixated on defending the "like 7 scum" part, which by the way if people were scum reading Ty for should also be scum reading Faddy for? Anyway, the longer he went without a reveal the more suspect he became, by the end of the day I honestly thought at worst he'd be a neutral, with a scum possibility. Therefore I think it was easy for scum to get on this vote, but the earlier ones felt more suspect simply because the argument Ty was having early in the day gave them an easy in.

The other train on Zeke is interesting. The argument Zeke was putting forward made sense, Maol said he thought Zeke would flip town, then said he'd shoot Zeke if he could. Obviously this doesn't make sense to Zeke so he put up a fight. Faddy in particular either completely missed what Zeke was saying or was purposefully misinterpreting it, that goes for some others on this train too. Zeke's vote didn't feel "omgus" as Faddy put it, but a genuine vote for something that didn't make much sense. I think if you voted for Zeke based on this "omgus" stuff then you either weren't paying attention or were paying attention but wanted to vote him anyway, possibly so you weren't on the leading train that was voting out a town player? Who knows right now but worth coming back to this when we see Zeke eventually flip.

The whole ATP v Chuggs thing was weird and honestly I wasn't paying any attention to it until ATP said "If Ty flips town I'm coming for you". This felt off, is this scum who knows Ty would flip not scum and was setting up their next target? It seems too blatant to be set up but not going to forget it right now.

Nin. This is something I have been able to notice from following games but I've never seen Nin so invested before, he's saying a lot but I'm not sure he's saying much? I didn't like him not putting down a vote after all that work, quite easy for scum to stay out of the votes if the leading ones are all non scum.

FateShirou - The only one that's come out of that day with a town lean for me. Was practically begging Ty to role reveal at one point, with plenty of time left to change the vote if required.

That's really all that sticks in my mind, I'm not one for doing ISO's or reading everything again so these notes could be useful for me if I live more than a couple of days.

Oh, wow, you've clearly put a lot of thought in to that.

Give me a couple of hours and when I get home I'll dig in to that and try and put forth some thoughts of my own. With any luck will both manage to be around together for a bit before night end.

I think I've underestimated how useful it would actually be to actually be able to have some back and forth during this downtime rather than just getting stuck in my own head before this. I'd like to make the most of it while it lasts.

Ephidel

How do you do, fellow mafia?

So I'm struggling with that, I think Shirou is likely town but after that I have nothing really, just now suspicions. I wish I stuck with my Nin suspicion now.
I have outright town reads on Neki and Shirou.

It's cheating because I'm friends with them but I really don't think Neki could be townier if he were trying.
Shirou, on the other hand feels like he's trying, but it also feels genuine to me. His questions don't feel as aimless as they did when I criticised him last game, and he did not want ty4on to give up.

Honestly after our chat tonight I'm pretty much wanting to place you there too, so if you were trying to pocket me, good job.

I have a town lean on Dr. Monkey, it felt like she was getting in the middle of things and trying to solve. She was very much pushing that 7 scum thing at the end which makes me a little wary, but most of what I've read from her feels like it's been thought through.

I've got a town lean on Nin as well. I can see where you're coming from, it does feel like a very different game for him, but he felt sincere to me. I hadn't actually realised he didn't have a vote down though. That is iffy and after all his prodding back and forth all day asking other people where they were planning to look I'm surprised he ended up without something down himself.

I'm less certain about Maol, it still trips me up when he's actually getting along with people, but there were hints of the more brusque Maol I'm more used to seeing in there from time to time.
I absolutely would not have voted for him yesterday because I do feel he was instrumental in keeping things going, and I want to think that's a towny action, but he's very much much someone I'm going to be watching because I'm not really sure.

In terms of trying to separate out the rest of the pack, I feel pretty good about Stan and SkyOdin, but not really for a defined reason. It might just be because they actually tried to engage with me at various points during the day which is... not the best reason, honestly.

I'm with you, there are absolutely scum on that train. There practically have to be. I don't necessarily think they were all on there early though, there's probably a point where a train like that feels like a safe option. I'm terrible at working through that sort of vote analysis though, I see people do it in thread every time and I never entirely follow why they're so sure things have to be that way.

The other train on Zeke is interesting.
Honestly a Zeke train on D1 is almost as lazy as a Sparks train on D1. There's rarely anything in it because Zeke just doesn't tend to engage that early.
It might actually be notable that he took enough umbrage to the comments against him to argue against it more seriously. I might have to look back at how he reacted to his D1 train in the Fate game because I really can't recall offhand.

I think I'm going to be interested in seeing what Faddy does today after your comments on him.

Ephidel

LP
Nin (already have suspicions)
Sparks
Zipped
I would be tempted to give Zipped a pass, I don't think he was even here for most of the day, I'm not surprised he missed voting.

The rest are suspicious, and Nin is a particular stand out because of how active he was in the thread and how much he was trying to get everyone else to think about voting.

LP is... he posted that he was catching up, but I don't think he actually said anything except chuck a pointed comment at chuggs about the bomber speculation, he hit his post count and stopped. It's a thing he does. I know that. It makes him bloody hard to read and last game he was scum and got away with it because of it. I don't know if I could catch him, honestly. I want to say he missed a vote in that game too though.

Honestly I don't feel great about HP's vote either. He's never a high profile poster, he's not a high volume one either, but I can't help but wonder if he's staying under the radar intentionally.
But damn, if he is, that vote at the end of the day was awful because it stuck out. He pretty much said he was doing it to stay off the no voting list, said he'd actually have voted for Ty, but then actually stuck it on Zeke. I want to think outright stating it makes it too blunt to be someone actually trying to avoid stacking but it looked weird af to me.

It occurs to me now that during Fate the chats locked when actions did.
I hope this one doesn't because it took me longer to get back to you than I hoped it would, and I really was hoping to actually have some back and forth, but just in case: Thank you for inviting me to my first night chat

I had fun, and you prompted me to think about things I wouldn't have otherwise.

If you feel like putting our heads together on a future night after we have a few more days worth of information at hand to work with I would absolutely be up for doing this again

I don't really know how Neki plays so no idea on that but I'll take your word it! I'll more than likely invite Fate tomorrow night unless something happens like him being kiilled or voted out. Whilst I'm not too bothered about inviting scum in I'd still rather keep it as town as possible.

I think the same on Monkey, but have no read on Maol as no idea how he plays and most things with him yesterday I kind of just glazed past.

Interesting about Zeke fighting back, to be honest I'd fight back too if I felt like someone was perhaps intentionally misinterpreting why I voted a certain way but could also be a signal that he has a more important role regardless of alignment.

I don't mind putting points out against people like Faddy etc because if I do I feel like it's because I see something, put some logic behind it and give my opinion on it, if it's wrong then it's wrong but that's not going to stop me pointing things out.

I'm pretty certain this will lock when the day starts but not 100% on that, either way it was very enjoyable chatting with you, was good to get some thoughts out and also some thoughts back.

I think day two will be quite spicy in the thread based off day one and everyone now having more info, should be fun!

.
I don't actually think he's familiar with the arsonist legend though so that's one less thing to worry about ;)

What I will say though is that in my opinion is that going forward I think maybe you should think about this in terms of more than your role.
You said you weren't worried about your flavour being known and that you thought your role wasn't powerful enough to make you a target but your role isn't what's valuable to town, you are. Your solving is.
If you're as open with your thoughts with your future gossip partners as you were with me you could find yourself in a really sticky situation if one of them realises you're on to a teammate and they would have a very definitive way of making sure you never get the chance to float those thoughts to the rest of us, and that would suck.
So please be careful.
