THE POSTING NEVER ENDS!

Who needs breaks during night phases anyway.

I wonder how many people won't realize that this chat even exists on OM?

Interesting. Does anyone who has watched the movie know if it's us or them that's potentially screwed?

Based on the movie, it's us that are screwed.

The infected dog stays at the base and passes along the infection to whoever interacted with it, also transforms itself into a creepy monster.

Oh great.

I will be interested to see how many people join us in here.

Also Chugg, what did you do?

I just got a PM linking to this thread, seems we've jumped the gun on posting here, but the rest should waltz in soon enough.

Also a reminder to "Watch" the thread if you haven't already.

We voted for 10 people, only 9 people can go on the expedition, Chuggs was randomly picked to be the one that doesn't go. That's how I understood it.

Yeah I assumed it would be random among the 1 vote people hence me asking what Chugg did.

Okay so 6 of us have checked in:

Chuggs
Hedin
Random (Me)
Vere
EC
Mazre

We are waiting on nin, loki, and anex I think? Don't think we'll hear from nin or loki for a minute.

So we have something weird going on with Chugg and if this follows the movie at all one of us is likely to get infected (I wonder if one of you might actually have the dog role).

Anything else?

Chuggs is definitely weird, seems like an error almost, but until we hear otherwise have to assume it happened for a reason.

See 2 broad possibilities re: tonight-
1. Someone was already 'the thing'/infected at the start of the game. They will have an opportunity to infect someone in their group tonight.
2. Nobody was 'the thing'/infected at the start of the game. Some mechanism will infect 1 or more players tonight.

Chuggs are you the dog? Because if so you dropped some crumbs:
I have a nice winter coat and everything
I do not think being the dog is alignment indicative. The gamerunners could try to throw us a curve ball. As it's a bastard game, forcing you to stay behind at base could be a secret part of your role unbeknownst to you. Why would you take some random dog on an expedition, after all. Also you could actually just be infected whether you know it or not and we're boned lmao

I would lean toward option 1 because unless we have town doing some wonky shit, this seems like a scum thing.

That's a good potential catch. It could be alignment indicative once we know more about how the game works. Part of me leery about assuming that the movie is going to inform how things play out though, just seems like it gives away too much info you know?

I could see neutral dog infecting the first person maybe? Again though feels like it's leaning too much into the movie beats.

Yeah fine, I wasn’t exactly being subtle and I think my recruiting chances have drastically decreased, so there’s not much reason to hide it. I’m a dog but I don’t know if I’m THE dog. My role says I’m an Alaskan Marmalute and it’s just a generic picture of a dog. If I had to guess I think I’m one of the dogs that gets got in the cage.

Important to note that based on end of day 1 post we've already slightly departed from the movie plotting. The trip to the norwegian base and the trip out to the alien ship were two different trips.

Yes this is correct. I imagine things will further diverge once we start voting on who to test, and then whatever the base explosion is will cap things off.

Wiki tells me that's the breed of The Dog. But also IMDB tells me that there are 15 credited roles left so there is room for normal dogs or any other creatures.

Yeah as Chuggs alluded to, there's a bunch of other dogs in the movie, the infected dog kills them all in the dog cage. It's possible there's multiple dogs in this game, and a game with multiple dogs might have a dog sniffer role, but until we have further information I won't be assuming any of that for certain.

I think with Chugg crumbing his role some and admitting it here makes him unlikely to be The Dog. Could be wrong on that but I'm pretty sure if he had a role to infect or was a neutral in some way he wouldn't have been quite as quick to claim.

Man the chorus should have turned that into a killer MJ song but no we had to waste it on a record executive's son.

My logic is based on the famous “goat problem”
Dammit Gump I was supposed to die out there in the field!

Err, hello all.

I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do now. This game is very unusual. Should we all post (early) reads or PIK lists or something? I think the problem with that is, we were previously told all night chats would be locked and hidden, so it's not like we can come back and cross-examine them here later. We could take screenshots of the night chat... But that is kinda yikes and might also be against the rules anyway?

I had a thought to go back to the only previous game I know with a mechanic similar to this one, which was EZA with the "Let's play some N64 tonight" but that just let people post in the main thread at night. This is pretty different.

I'm not a big fan of read lists or PIKs this early but that's just a playstyle preference.

Basically what I was assuming. I think the safer bet is to assume that scenario 2 is happening just because we want to be better safe than sorry, but there's also a very possible chance it's 1 just because of how unusual day one was.

Since day one wasn't a testing phase, there's a good chance part of that was because we were all town or uninfected at the very least, since we have no way of knowing yet if infected = scum.

While I'd personally think it's probably the case, we won't really know until we see a flip of an infected person.

Either case >:( That was mean of the day phase to end while I was working. I mean i'm going to miss every day phase probably, but still >:(

I have to agree LOL. This early in the game it's better to just group people into "would vote for" or "would not vote for" if you have enough peeps to do that with.

This day phase was definitely very unusual especially in part due to the voting. Until we learn how the mechanics of this game work, I think the only thing the voting data from today will be good for is just in that we can keep track of which peeps stayed behind (aka us cool cats not getting our nuts frozen off) or the poor saps sans Chuggs the Doggo out there in the cold with a corpse.

However, that may change. If there was scum during this day phase, they may have tried to get certain players to go to a specific group but again we won't know that till we ahve more information.

lokiduck

Awww yiss mothafuckin' breadcrumbs
As for which group is more likely to get infected... I actually think there's a chance both groups are at risk of it happening... if this is based on the Game Runners RNGing it LOL.

My reasons?

Pulling a Z-Beat here but flavor.

Our reason to get infected possibly? Well that's easy... it's what happened in the movie and the infected doggo is probably at base with us.

The reason the other group might get infected? As movie watchers will know every part of the Thing is a living being trying to survive just as much as the rest of it. Blair's research mentioned the charred remains of that one guy still having living tissue, and as we know the thing can handle being frozen and then unfrozen. Sooooo while in the movie the ones that went to the base weren't infected, maybe there's a chance they can be due to staying at that base over night via a part of the thing unfreezing.

Of course :nobu: if it's not RNG based but based on there being a infector, then all this stuff doesn't matter.

Either case it's the same shit i was assuming during the day phase which is that it doesn't really matter who goes where because we don't know how the infection mechanic works. We just need to keep track of who went where and focus on who are most suspicious and the ones they've been hanging out with.

I don't know if I can get behind option 1 because we know something happened which cause me to stay here.

I think there's four possible situations here.

1. Scum did it to make me look suss.
2. Town did it for...some reason?
3. I have a passive ability that I know about that caused me to stay or it's something I intentionally did this to myself (I know this isn't the case, but y'all don't) I would have just told you if this was the case, and if I'm scum there's no reason to have it shake out like this either.
4. I have a passive ability that I'm not told about that caused me to stay...which I guess? This doesn't seem super likely, but it's possible.

So of these, the first one just seems the most likely to me.

This is what I am reduced to. Loki help, you have lots of experience with night chats
I do have experience with night chats :D But mostly because i've been betrayed in chats >:( Do I need to remind you of Fando the Betrayer and Muffin the zeroxer of Illuminati membership cards?!

Anyways, treat this chat like you treated your master servant chat with terra. Trust your partners as much as you can, and scum hunt/investigate anyone you concerned about >:(

Agree that it will be helpful to keep track of who was sorted with who if we get broken out into groups like this again.

My personal thought that either side is at risk and just depends on who The Dog got sorted with. This is of course not considering there may just be a traditional scum team with some different methods a a.

All good points XD Honestly option 2 does seem likely just because it'd give the scum/infector more agency in who they want to infect which makes more sense to me as a game runner.

I still wonder if it's scenario 1 because of day ones voting being different, but again 2 is probably what we should assume until we have more info.

It would be funny if the reason you didn't go is just because you are a Doggo and ahve some unknown passive, but if that was the case I guess that clears the expedition peeps of... not being dogs???

Only reason I could see town having the power though if it's Clark who has a power connected to dog players.

You may also be wondering why a song from 1860 has the soviet union logo :nobu:

That's because this version was sung from the Red Army Choir. :D

and because we are here might as well toss in the folk song that was used for tetris :kanna:

I'm only able to talk until I go to bed since I will probably be AWOL again until night ends LOL after I do based on the clock.

Unless the gamerunners are lying to us again :ghostcop: Though in this case I doubt it.
