Game Thread Marvel Heroes Mafia - Half of You Will Enjoy This

Highly disagree on Polter, he's one of my Town Reads. He seemed way too lost to be Scum./QUOTE]
I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say the vote alone looks scummy. I was just pointing out that he was also one of the last minute Grizzly bandwagoners that didn't seem to have a coherent reason for jumping onto it.

Vote log will tell you how the votes came in, you'll probably have to dig for actual discussions though

I was more interesting in discussion but I feel like someone brought in him during the first event as suspicious but I can't remember who. I'll be digging I guess.

Justification? No. It annoys me when he does it to no end.

Just saying I'm not shocked.

All you needed to know that it wasn't remotely likely to be true was because Splinter suggested in the first post and Splinter theories are pure crazy talk.

*first place, not post.

@Sawneeks Yeah, I’m not going to sit here and act like I deserve all the credit in the world for the Grizzly lynch. None of my scumreads were viable lynch options, Rynam was a lazy lynch, and I felt like Vere had a better chance of flipping town so I figured it was worth it to try and push a third option and see what shook out.

Not sure who, all I remember is that Faddy asked multiple times if anyone feels like Grizzly was town. If he wasn't THE one that started it, he was at least the biggest advocate.

Mafia with Bear: Zeke, Ynnek, and Alexem
Not Mafia with Bear: Kyan, Monkey, and Coolest
Weird Ones: Faircure, Gorlak, Nat, and Geno.

Again, after dinner, but I have some notes that'll go nicely with these.

Just wanted to say real quick that just as you town read Polter for looking lost, the one of these that I'm iffy on is Ezekel. He felt too... stubborn? for returning scum. Regardless he's another one I'd be curious to let watch because I know his job has him in and out.

Faircure I'm iffiEST about because I remember her being a little shady by accident so she wouldn't be a prime target for me today either.

Okay, if I don't finish cooking dinner I'm gonna get divorced, so.

Okay, just asking because it sounded like an explanation for his behavior.

I felt like Vere had a better chance of flipping town so I figured it was worth it to try and push a third option and see what shook out.

Considering how Grizzly could have made a case for Vere but instead gave up so easily with a few images of "how about (insert alternative votes here)" for a lot of the last hour or so.

I think Vere has a good chance of flipping scum if Grizzly really did sacrifice himself (which is my current thinking because I can't see why else he gave up without even a small fight)

I vaguely remember someone (I think it may have been Faddy?) say he had played similarly in another game and that was a scumtell. Search isn't bringing anything up for me though.

Monopoly Mafia. Grizzly acted very townie, no one read him as scum apart from one (who got him via a shot at night with a monopoly card that gave them a free shot).

Grizzly even mentioned later "The arguments for me as meta so I can't really argue against it" (paraphrasing)

But he should easily know that he doesn't necessarily need to argue against it, he could instead make a case for someone else that would be more convincing. Instead he didn't and gave up way too easily.

I have Vere as null still, Grizzly’s tone is what led to me opting to go that route. It just felt..off compared to what I felt like he usually did. Vere’s confusion about the event felt genuine as someone else that was in the event and confused. I also feel like scum wouldn’t have been so bad at bullshitting a reason for his vote. Easily could’ve just said he went with a top vote getter. What hurts Vere in my eyes is that he’s spent most of his time defending himself instead of scum hunting.

Grizzly was shitting on me since day 1, and my lynch had already lost traction when Kawl claimed* to have started the TD.

Before I forget if anyone has an itchy trigger finger they should consider Kawl. Claimed only to backtrack for a very iffy reason and then doesn't vote grizzly. Think he can go either way so it would he he bet to just remove him now if therest a chance.

Reasonable and I honestly like I said before didn't read Vere as scum because of the event at all. It's Grizzly doing it when Vere could have been taken down even if he was lynched for weak reasons but instead Grizzly rolled over and didn't make a case for him or the other top vote leaders Kawl and Ry. Ry most said was a lazy vote (so going to ITA him today) and Kawl is just weird.

But I can see why you might have him as Null but I need to see some good reasons today to not seriously consider him as a lynch target I think.

I would never defend an individual that was so slanderous on a poor innocent lush.

that's how you should have known it wasn't true.

I quoted his vote post earlier and it was just a "runaway trains are boring".

Could be nothing but worth considering when put together with his weird ass TD claim not claim.

Yea grizzly flip tonight doesn't give us much I think. We can ita kill him next day phase.
Kawl waiting to claim he did it and the timing of the TD both read as scum. Couldve saved time in discussion. There is also the small chance he isn't the one that did it. Which would make him scum as well.
Would answer the question whether this power is scum or town. For the ppl who were so sure this was a scum power not voting him, is weird.
This reads to me as odd. We can derive some things from Grizzly's lynch at least, considering we know* he's not town which is a better alternative to trying a low percent chance in ITA of killing him and possibly allowing him to live. Why go through this route?

It wasn't that I wanted him dead, it was that I wanted to try to make sure we didn't end up with a tie, resulting in a no lynch. I didn't really have much else to comment on about Grizz because I hadn't been reading him that closely, hence why his sudden train surprised me.

Guess I just don't understand how you decide between Ry, the person you Town/Neutral lean on, and go to Grizzly instead who you have admitted you didn't even read closely despite having a suspicious train. To me it reads like busing but you had no good grounds to do it so you threw it out there.

Again, after dinner, but I have some notes that'll go nicely with these.

Can't wait for 'em. :>

And I'll reread Zeke when I have the time. Reading over that Day end he stuck out because he just flat-out ignores Bear.

You're not interested in pulling the trigger? That's a bit passive.

Careful, say that too loud and people might think you're role fishing. ;p

And I'll gladly pull the trigger. Give me a gun and I'll get my hands dirty.

That does strike me as uncharacteristic, but I'm willing to say her engine hasn't revved up to where we see half page long read lists yet.

Am I usually...not...passive? I'm not one to really jump on someone and rip them apart. :x

Wait...what? Dawg, what is this. Can someone explain? Has this happened in game before?

I'm don't recall something like this in a game before, working under the assumption that this is a 51st player, though can't rule out that it's one of our MIA players. Interesting that it specifically mentions we can't interact with them but not vice-versa.

OKay so, I passed out thinking i would be up before Day1s end, obviously i wasnt, and now there is like 8 pages to read.
Any chance someone can give me a tldr?
i know that we lynched burb over some sort of shaky executioner(?) roleclaim so thats nice.

Also cant say im at all surprised at and the number of night kills, we were told that this game would deplete pretty quickly.

Continuing with my catch up notes I took..

I have some general reads outside of connections to Bear but not very many given that Bear flipping Mafia kinda says a lot.

Scum Reads: Not a big fan of Lux right now. The little posts I did come across ignored most conversation talking points and were generally very reserved. There was a specific post I had in mind but I didn't write it down, I'll see if I can find it. Hom3land is another for being very reserved and he was also ignoring the Bear lynch choice when it was a talking point but less-so than Zeke (1321). Muffin being very quiet also scares me a lot, he did that in HvV as Neutral and I'm getting similar 'hanging in the shadows' vibes.
Town Reads: Not shocking but Melon and Splinter due to the Thunderdome. Just general good feelings for how they both reacted to it.
Maybe Townies?: Polter is someone I said before and I still stand by it. He seems really lost and generally trying to figure out his place here and I kinda Town Read it. Terra also feels like himself but I'll admit I glaze over his posts a lot. They are long and say little.

The 'what in the fuck' category: Kawl. Claiming the way he did makes me think he isn't Scum but Monkey/Splinter really did have a point that his 'targets' were weird picks for a townie. Now he has backpedalled for a 'gambit' but I have a hard time seeing how that is a gambit to make as Town? All it did was stroke Splinter's ego and make Kawl a target so I don't...know why he did it? I don't think he is Mafia but I'm thinking a Neutral. Or just a really weird Townie with bad choices.

Are you people going to jump in on the fun?

Are you asking if we're gonna specifically take a shot? or more generally increase activity (given the list of players)?

I might take a shot, though I probably won't call it beforehand. As far as activity I should be a bit more active this phase (no work the next 2 days). Don't think I'm gonna be writing any novels. Trying to stay in the moment with this game and avoid analysis paralysis.

Sawneeks

Yeah, it does. It just seems like you're less active than I'd expect.

Said so last Phase but I misjudged the Day End and was asleep/at a work meeting for the majority of the Day when I joined. Hoping to be more active now that things are relatively back to normal.

Wait...what? Dawg, what is this. Can someone explain? Has this happened in game before?

Not really. All we know is we can't vote them or target them in general and they may or may not be able to vote. So far they haven't shown up yet.

I'd hate to see good people's efforts be wasted.

its not the momentary stroking that I like to focus on, its the ultimate being made a fool of really.

Dunno if he was made a fool of, really. I'd say it backfired and makes you look silly :p

Kawl said he started the TD event but now he says he didn't.

Ry is still MIA

Vere didn't get lynched

Grizzly went crazy, faked claim, died and was Mafia RB with Godfather status

The main events I can think of.

Sawneeks

Here. Votes were 4 Grizz - 5 Vere - 7 Ry

Grizzly is tempting but this would be such a sudden shift so close to the end of the day when he's said nothing 'out there' that would make everyone start to vote for him.

I'm tempting yet there is nothing that would make people vote at me? Weird wishy-washyness here.

Tempting because I don't see you as Town. Monopoly is still fresh in my mind. You were town read by so many people and got taken out by a shot from a townie. It's hard not to think that you're just playing the same way but this time you're not being town read so easily but you remind me very much of Monopoly.

I also wouldn't mind you seeing past N2 this time :P

If you don't see me as town, then put your vote where your mouth is.

You know... I'll give you that, I said something similar in PR I think to someone else "Put your vote where your mouth is" so I'll do just that then

Vote: Grizzly

Don't see him as Town, was told to put my vote where my mouth is which I'm doing.

Between Grizzly and Vere, I'd go with Grizzly as being more likely scum.

It just feels kinda....disjointed? Almost like Scum!Bear was coaching a scummate to vote them in-thread. Would like some more eyes on this.

yea no crap my 'targets' were weird pick for a townie, there's no way that a townsperson was responsible for the thunderdome yesterday which is why splinters reaction makes me believe he isnt a bad dude, because its so helplessly far into his own ego to think it was reasonable. i'm here for a fun time, not a long time

It just feels kinda....disjointed? Almost like Scum!Bear was coaching a scummate to vote them in-thread. Would like some more eyes on this.

Understandable why you would think that but:

1. I couldn't help but think of Monopoly and how Town read Grizzly was so I had him in the back of my mind for a bit. However coming out and saying that made him say the whole "Put your vote where your mouth is" thing

which 2. If you remember from PR. I think I used that multiple times when challenging people to vote for me so I gave bear that becuse it reminded me of well.. when I said that before and decided to "put my vote where my mouth is"

This may be my first game where town pulled a scum lynch off the bat - that's Mahvel, baby!!

I have a suspicion that we saw as many deaths over the night as there are scummies left. It could very well be that scum do not have to come to a consensus in this game. If there were about 5 at the beginning, then giving them each a NK is a great way to balance a lower scum ratio in this game. The nice part is that this is somewhat testable... if we keep seeing high numbers of NK's, then that's strong support for my theory. It'd be unlikely for scum to not go for the NK's over a concern that I may be right.

Thoughts?

I was going to say I didn't think that was possible, but looking over Grizzly's role flip, it doesn't really discount that possibility, only that they can do both commands "if applicable".

Is that what you're saying in support of your theory? Just checking because that theory will be broken or not by D3 probably.

That's possible, but I just looked at Grizzlies flip again and it had factional kill
Back in his throne room, Thanos pounded his fist on the arm of his chair.

“If they won’t begin the killing, then I will. They don’t seem to understand the situation they’ve found themselves in.”

As the heroes fought against one another, it was clear that they were holding back. Trying to injure and incapacitate instead of kill. The one taking the biggest beating among them all was War Machine. Unable to keep up without Tony’s new tech, even the weakest among them were able to land pot shots. Just as his consciousness was about to fade, a shockwave blew everyone away from his body.

As the dust cleared a giant shadow loomed over the hunched figure of War Machine. Thanos slowly picked up Rhodes by the skull and swiftly slammed his spine down over his knee. With no effort he tossed the body down into the void.

“No more games or I’ll kill all of you”

Grizzly has died!

All night actions are due to me ONE HOUR before the night ends. PM them to me through OM NOT resetera.

Night 1 Ends in:

So it seems they still have to come to a consensus.

And you're right, I missed the "factional kill" part when I looked back at it. So that makes that theory less likely to me.

"When applicable" still sticks out to me, though. Usually the role PM's say something like "if you're the last mafia team member", right?

Yeah, pretty much. A scum team would have to be pretty dumb to not use multiple NK's just to disprove what I'm saying, so I do predict a constant multiple amount of NK's.

It's hard for me to predict role effects, but I think the multiple NK angle might give us something to work with. If I'm wrong, that'd be a happy error for town, since hopefully less NK's :]

Back. Many responses incoming and then some other things.

Looked through some of Grizzly's posts, feelfeel like Stuart and Geno probably are town. I have notes I'll share at some point lol.

Hecht was right about Grizzly. I wonder if his Natiko read has any merit...
I definitely want to see justifications for why we should clear Stuart - please explain. Same for Geno. More explanation than this, too:

Thanks!

At some point he asks Geno to join in a Stuart vote. Just seems overly risky to openly ask a teammate to do so. A scummate would probably support another teammate's vote more subtly. Will quote posts once I'm at a computer.

He pushed Vere pretty hard too, but not sure what to make of that yet.

Considering the context - everything that was happening - why does that connection to Geno seem scum vs town to you? Because scum don't interact openly with their scummates? Please. You're the dazzling mafia queen; you know better, and so does Grizzly.

I await more from you because this is either thin, drive-by analysis or pretty forced, and either way, it's not coming across as particularly townie.

So what would you take factional to mean? To me, it just means from the mafia faction. Is it because it only says kill, as in singular, that makes you think consensus still applies?

I don't think anyone should clear me just because of the thing with Grizzly as it's really weak to do.

Think of me as Town because of my posts in here rather than because of what one nutter Scum person did when he self sacrificed himself like that.

A called-out Ynnek focusing on mechanics talk and speculation about scum numbers is not exactly giving me great feelings there, either. There's the talk going on with oreo and earlier, this:

I am curious now, how much we'll be able to trust alignment results now.

Maybe we got lucky and hit the only godfather, but I get the feeling a lot of the mafia team will show up as town. We are all heroes, after all.

Also, his role flip mentioned mafia. Does this help us at all with knowing if we have one, or multiple, scum teams working against us?

First, one godfather flip is not much to speculation on about not trusting investigation results, and that makes me highly suspicious that he knows that after Sneeks called him out, he might get copped - or he wants to be able to shade any green results.

But all this mechanics talk and speculation is bright, pulsing busywork.

Factional to me, means that you're making a kill for the entire group. At least that's how I've always seen it, that the scum faction have a kill seperate from anything else.

Anyone remember off hand who started the Grizzly push or are you really going to make me dig?

Faddy was the first vote so him.
Yeah, Faddy was the first to vote him, but this ignores a lot of context before that. I was one of the first to push at him over the Stuart read (I feel like there was someone else but it wasn't easily accessible in search) - and he ignored me. Then Faddy and I had some back and forth about it, and he talked to some other people, too. Faddy was still town-reading Grizzly at the time. Grizzly ignored me until I specifically called him back out about my posts but he'd begun engaging others. Faddy and I both had votes on other people during parts of this (lol the Gs: Geno and Gorlak*). My read on this is that there was a lot of mess around Grizzly vs. Stuart early on that does bear some checking - faircure in particular is a little slippery around it - but none of it is as conclusive as the bear's behavior was. Combing back through Grizzly's discussions to fill some of these gaps is on my to-do list for this phase, but I probably won't get to it until tomorrow.

One thing that may be more accessible are: what happened when Faddy asked if anyone townread Grizzly.
oh, fake edit, looks like he didn't let that much time pass and then only Natiko really answered, with a null read. Would have maybe been fruitful to get more responses in there. I wonder why no one else who was posting around there and clearly active spoke up at all either way? hmm.

Crumbles under pressure *for now*
Factional to me, means that you're making a kill for the entire group. At least that's how I've always seen it, that the scum faction have a kill seperate from anything else.

factional kill is pretty standard language for mafia NK, would not read much into it
also hi, oreo, miss you, hope you're not scum

Hmm fair enough points. I'm gonna pocket my theory, though, and see what happens over the next few nights.

Also, hi hi buddy monkey! \o/ We haven't tried to lynch each other in forever. Really should make the time to catch up and accuse each other of scumminess

I mean I was about to and then I remembered you legit just like to talk mechanics so I'll give you a pass for this minute.

There's always later.

Walk me through more of this, please? Connect more dots, more dots, more dots.

Mechanics talk and speculation is what I have right now, lol. I'm able to make sense of those better than reading people, unfortunately.

Yeah, but y'know, I have a sneaking suspicious your win con is not "figure out the framework of the game," so if you're interested in appearing less like you're wearing a neon green scum suit, like... I dunno... engage with more?

A lot of this relies on my theory that Grizzly sacrificed himself for one of the current vote leaders.

Out of all 3 of the main ones (Vere, Ry and Kawl), I feel he could probably have made enough of a case again Vere. it'd be a weak case but look at all the votes on Vere during the day, enough people may have gone for it. Ry's case many would call lazy as people who had already voted for him (which included me), people called those votes lazy so that wouldn't have helped Grizzly at all.

Kawl many people have been wtf over. A case could have been made but I feel like he'd have had more success making a case against Vere and Grizzly is a good player from what I've seen. He knew he could but didn't and gave up so easily.

Of course it doesn't rule out the other two as scum, I'm just saying Vere was the easiest of the vote leaders to push on and possibly get enough people to stay on Vere but Grizzly didn't.

If none of them were scum, that would blow my theory up but look at how easy Grizzly gave up instead of fighting. I know in PR when I went a bit idgaf, people accused me of sacrificing for other scum despite not being scum but we KNOW Grizzly is scum and we know he gave up very easily and trolled for the last hour or so after his votes gained traction. So him sacrificing himself for others is actually pretty viable compared to PR where people accused me of it and I ended up being town.

That's all the dots I can really connect just now. It's maybe not conclusive but it's good to keep in mind as the day progresses I think in terms of possible scum targets to watch out for.

Once I get back to my PC I'm going back to bring up the Vere posts that connected the two yesterday

Sorry in advance for length :x I can summarize if needed but I was just writing along as I read.

Rereading the eod pages and there really wasn't much justification for Grizzly besides meta? I could understand his reasoning/obstinance about keeping his vote on Stuart as a justification but only Monkey really went there, strongly read her as town. Coolest started the lynch, town read on him.

Gorlak and Natiko bandwagoned but it was still really early, it's a better look than those who jumped on later. Gorlak unvoted later pre-claim and the post only really included the unvote so I'm not entirely sure what to make of that.

Stuart was kinda wishywashy about wanting to vote or not, but eventually voted after pressuring from Grizzly. I can especially understand the meta justification from him since he's been scum with Grizzly before. Lean town but there is some weird stuff surrounding him that gives me pause.

Nin had expressed previously before his vote that he was scum reading Grizzly. Looks okay there. Kawl claims the TD and Grizzly starts shitposting soon after. Verelios' vote is self-preservation, understandable. I town read him in general but the vote was also fine.

Terra votes Geno here and says he doesn't understand the Grizzly train. Alexem also said that. NAI maybe? idk. Like it was kinda hard to understand the train, it's not like people were including a lot of reasoning in their vote posts but also it's not like Grizzly's name hadn't been coming up some earlier. Alexem leaves pre-claim and Terra seems to believe the claim and stays on Geno.

Zeke ignoring the Grizzly situation entirely and voting Kawl doesn't look good, scum lean. Also don't like him later saying a Grizzly flip wouldn't give us much. Ynnek not justifying a Grizzly vote looks bad. Where Geno voted seems like a good time for bussing, Grizzly defending him earlier also isn't great.

Here Grizzly claims. I vote. Apollo votes with justification, reads fine. But I do find it kinda weird that he said he was skimming hundreds of posts and still found smth really specific of Grizzly's to not like. Scum lean. Muffin was arguing for a Rynam lynch and disappeared from when the Grizzly train started until the claim happened. Eventually voted Grizzly after talking out the role a bit. Seems a little strange to me, scum lean for now. Poltergust comes in at the very end and votes Grizzly bc of role I think.

From those mentioned-
Town leaning: Monkey, Coolest, Natiko, nin, Verelios
Less confident town leans: Stuart, Alexem, Terra, Polter
Less confident scum leans: Geno, Gorlak
Scum leaning: Zeke, Muffin, Ynnek, Apollo

Generally side-eyeing everyone that stayed on Rynam when people were saying it was an easy, low-info lynch and ITAs could deal with him better.

Maybes: Faircure jumped back and forth on Bear, voting and unvoting for odd reasons (1225, 1315, votes eventually)

Faircure I'm iffiEST about because I remember her being a little shady by accident so she wouldn't be a prime target for me today either.

Yeah, all I can say in defense of my behavior is that I can be pretty unconfident and easy to sway sometimes. D1 especially. Example that comes first to mind is when scum splinter said my vote for him in hvv was the weirdest he'd seen all game or something, and I immediately jumped off and kinda flailed the rest of the phase.

Flipped back and forth on Grizzly bc I didn't initially like how he was staying on Stuart for the no lynch discussion when a lot had happened in the meantime. But he really dug his heels in and expanded more on why so it gave me pause. Didn't agree with his reasoning but I was townreading his behavior otherwise so I let it pass as a stubborn townie read. Eventually voted because I don't trust neutral claims and my current vote was a bit of stretch but better than the Rynam/Verelios alternative.

Also worth saying that I was going to respond to Monkey and say I agree that Stuart's behavior was probably NAI but the first event happened and I deleted my response and then forgot. Never imagined it'd be so important :(

lol 'accomplish' in a 50 player game after not playing for most of a year

yea no crap my 'targets' were weird pick for a townie, there's no way that a townsperson was responsible for the thunderdome yesterday which is why splinters reaction makes me believe he isnt a bad dude, because its so helplessly far into his own ego to think it was reasonable. i'm here for a fun time, not a long time

i'll put you down as 'dont care about the team just here for laughs' then.

No, I know. There is the meta aspect to your vote change but it was simply the way your conversation flowed with him. It just does not come across as a natural discussion that lead you to change your vote.

However, this is why I'm asking for more opinions on it (which people are ignoring) because reading tone is really subjective so I'm not going to jump at this and say you're scum solely because of it.

Grizzly being a sacrifice for another player does make sense if there was a particularly strong ability which scum thought they needed on one of the vote leaders. Since Grizzly was roleblocked maybe they figured he was the best lamb to throw in the pit?

Otherwise, I find it hard to see how someone claims neutral executioner and hopes to live another day. Didn’t even try something like town executioner (which would come up “proven” on a cop check thanks to godfather), straight to neutral.

So if Vere was so important that he was more valuable than a godfather roleblocker, why would Grizzly have pushed him in the first place? He helped get that going.

I highly doubt Grizzly would sacrifice himself to save Rynam (or really, any of the other potential candidates), but when you make it about Verelios, I just think this doesn't hold up under scrutiny.

Personally disagree given the timing of the Grizzly train.

Not really ignoring it, just not sure how to feel about it. Grizzly seemed relatively serious about getting him lynched so that stands out.

Okay, following this, who do you think that is?

You flatter me.

Also you and Monkey being on the same person right now is setting off Cluedo alarm bells for me
anything for you <3

And does that mean you disagree with the Ynnek cases or?
