Ya, Terra did a great job especially with the card he was given. I was quite revealed to get my town PM.Props to Terra for subbing into a garbage situation and making the most of it.
I was maybe the only person caught out by it and the difference between 24/48 night isn't that big from a gameplay view, but it did mess with my rhythm a bit. I usually get used to all the timings after a while.I found the day phase structure to be a real positive. 48 hours is enough for a day phase and the quick night in the middle of the week really kept the momentum of the game for me and not having to be bothered on the weekend was also a bonus.

Not sure how different it would be if I knew it from the start lol
i like it and i stoleded itActually, yeah. What are the thoughts on how the day/night phases were handled? I wanted to try something different since weekends are pretty slow in general, so making the entire weekend a night phase each time was what I came up with.
I kinda want us to try 12/12 one day owo

Also, you know what, the game does get very stressful, unhealthy, and a waste of time when people have decided to ignore any work I'm putting into the game, in favor of making shitty meta arguments about me and my personality. It's the opposite of fun, and maybe I now understand what Darryl was saying about people making assumptions about him.
The worst part is that it's impossible to tell in-game who's genuinely being an asshole towards you, and who's mistaken. I had to quit the game, because I don't like being tortured.
The thing is, I'm not sorry if that ruined your game plans, because primarily complaining about that before being concerned for the well-being of others makes you a callous shit. I honestly don't care that it puts you in a tough spot for the game.
I joined this game because I was invited, and I thought that was nice. I wasn't told it would be a pit of vipers. I have seen this game get progressively more venomous, and I'm just not gonna play until it gets better.
i'll just be open and to the point about things:
- like the phases
- saw the design and like its simplicity
- puns needs to diiiiiieeeee
- didn't particularly like that it wasn't an invitational for the 'best of the community' - as in bottie's feedback during our DMs:
[8:11 AM] cabot: i agree with you i thought this wouldve been the kind of 'best of' list
[8:11 AM] cabot: so obviously i was a little surprised when it was more of a mix
[8:11 AM] cabot: dont really see the point if its just a mix of player quality cause then its just a normal mafia game
- didn't particularly like the command PENETRATE (gross)
- despite that puns needs to die, some of the flavour were funny : (
- somehow, the tone of the game felt rather mean-spirited and i didn't like that. i never did like gamerunners thinking that players are supposed to 'dance' for their enjoyment but that's a subjective take, who knows if the players actually felt this or nah
overall, i think the tone set at the beginning caused a few disheartened players. kawl, in particular (and you're free to correct me if /when you come in, kawuru), felt that it was bait and switch. inactivity on the scum team was also particularly debilitating and may have caused additional stress on the reminder players to try and pull the game through.
Aside from snark I'm only gonna say that you initially acted out of character which was a red flag.
You then proceeded to go down more and more ridiculous leaps in logic and most people acted naturally to that.
I don't care for you calling everyone vipers or he most loud and difficult players ever.
Truth be told if this were to happen again I'd like a lineup reveal before game start, because I do have preferences on who I want to play with.
Costume games always sound fun on paper but the ones most affected by this issue will still be noticed regardless. I don't care what name you put on Blarg, you'll know it's him.
You'll likely be able to tell which ones me.
Etc. etc.
If the game starts on Monday by Friday you're already in D5 and the game is almost over.No weekends in that?
I think 24/24 would be better with no weekends. Day ends on Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
Ya, that's why I felt like balance was a bit in scum's favor. We voted for scum 5/7 day phases (and still nearly lost
It's hard to keep up though and a lot of your play style will inevitably come through.:thinking emoji:
.....................Where RP finally becomes a real mafia tool?
/brief_pause
For costume it's probably wise to ban open person speculation. Just let people speculate privately.
I don't care what name you put on Blarg, you'll know it's him
"Man, isn't Theodore being especially Theodore today? ;)"Yup, that's how it's always been when I've done them.
Blarg already did really well in Blargohunt where he disguised as a random person impersonating Blarg.Maybe. I think Blarg could disguise himself if he chose to. I've long been of the opinion that Blarg does his shtick for our benefit, not his.
I think 20-25 for a costume game is about right, and I'd be willing to open Outer Mafia to host that.
They're still here :D

;_;Not anymore, they're not.
I was thinking of 12/12.No it would be 3 day phases in a week. 24 hours day, 24 hour night
Monday: Day 1 ends
Tuesday: Night 1 ends
Wednesday: Day 2 ends
Thursday: Night 2 ends
Friday: Day 3 ends
Sunday Night 3 ends
;_;
I was thinking of 12/12.
Not the same need to worry about weekends when most won't experience it.
I'll have to talk to Melon again ( and bug Royal/Captain to look at it again :p ) but the whole 'hidden identity' thing is the basis for our Power Rangers Mafia game. I'd been meaning to ask you if it was possible to host it here too so this is perfect timing!Maybe. I think Blarg could disguise himself if he chose to. I've long been of the opinion that Blarg does his shtick for our benefit, not his.

Maybe 24/24 weekends for themFor the townies still alive I'm sure they would appreciate the break.
Penetrate is a word that has a primary meaning that isn't something sexual...
Still, noted.
I get that the tone of the game was set in a certain way, but I made the assumption that enough people here had played with me or at least talked to me to know that I wasn't being serious.
On that note, having a game for "the best" players also means that some players are clearly "the worst," and I'm not going to rack-and-stack the community that way.
I can just relate to both sides of it really well. I’ve felt unfairly called out in games before, and it’s made me angry and aggressive. I’ve also felt frustrated by other players and what I felt were weak arguments against me with little basis. At the end of the day it’s a game - if you aren’t having fun that’s okay. Maybe you need a break. Maybe certain styles of games are more up your alley. Hell, there may be players you just don’t get along with. Just do what’s best for you. The one thing I can say about this community though is people generally seem to care about each other, so try and not let it get too personal. I’ve fell victim to that twice and on the other side of it when I realized I didn’t just impact people’s enjoyment of the game but had genuinely impacted their happiness overall it only made me feel that much worse.I like you as a mafia player, Natiko! But I think too it's a nice thing to reflect.
It's okay, stubbornly rejecting a wise one's warnings all your life then to do on a rebellious whim the opposite of what they were always telling you, only to end up betraying them to death, then living the hard life in shame and agony from your mistake(s) but eventually finding redemption after slowly taking your victim's last words to heart until when, at the critical juncture of binary choice that would define you from then on you finally decide to do what is good for life, is a solid and respectable character arcI adore you.
Sorry about the murder.

Blarg (and kyaa, for example) is a special case in that he has a very recognizable posting style. That's two players out of the many dozens we have, and that's assuming they would not want to change the way they talk in this hypothetical game. I think that a costume could surely work.
Maybe. I think Blarg could disguise himself if he chose to. I've long been of the opinion that Blarg does his shtick for our benefit, not his.

This is what I mean by bullshit meta arguments. "Out of character" according to what? What is your baseline? One game where I was scum? You had nothing to really go on, and you're still giving me this bullshit.
So you get to drive me fucking crazy with attacks on my character as a player, and I don't get a reasonable defense against it AND have to constantly second-guess your intentions about it as a mafia ploy or not.
and as for wanting a lineup reveal, great, but you dont' have to worry about me playing with you for a long while
Costume game would be nice for people if they wanted it, I played one and didn't think it was very good.
Choice is important.
-I actually really like the idea of trying a costume game. Sorian has a point, but I kind of think it might be a fun exercise anyway.
You chose your girl over me and Kawl. I think you make poor decisions so I chose for you :)Costume game would be nice for people if they wanted it, I played one and didn't think it was very good.

I'd been meaning to ask you if it was possible to host it here too so this is perfect timing!
I had the same experience of a couple games were it went poorly and it made me realize I just may not be a great fit for playing mafia.

If our spies in the top echelons of Resetera could somehow implement within that framework an anonymous account system for players, whereby a game's partcipants are named something like "Guest1" to "Guest19/Guest##" or equivalent non-descript, which would be confirmed by the game's host that the correct players have assumed their respective new names by PM'ing a code to their real account and asking them to PM the host back with that code from their newname accounts; would be a treat

Agreed, that wouldn't be something to just spring on folks.
Well, you already have the setup for one.
:'(See I’m just following in Retro’s steps!
Except I’m probably shit at being a mod and I definitely couldn’t design a website.
Plus I am not about to raise a kid.

As someone most familiar with the first of three horrible games on my part you should understand lol
Poke spider to see. I’ve not ran a game yet so I believe I’m not qualified to review until then.If you aren't going to be playing would you help me with feedback and auditing my game?
I had one reviewer no show and haven't got anyone else.

I saw someone with a lot of potential learning it quickly and refining their method. As someone most familiar with the first of three horrible games on my part you should understand lol
Well thanks Ty. I certainly enjoyed playing, and maybe one day I will again. The two games back to back where I ruined others enjoyment just didn’t feel good. I’m not going anywhere though, still plan to run GOT one day and I’ll be in spec threads observing from afar.I saw someone with a lot of potential learning it quickly and refining their method.
I still remember your town read of me way back in your first town game quite fondly. It went against the thread and showed great integrity. It's the thing I remember the most because of the circumstances, but in I've always admired your approach in games and more then once looked over your analysis when I felt stuck.

natichan is one of my favourites * ___ * hope you will play again one day, natichan <3Well thanks Ty. I certainly enjoyed playing, and maybe one day I will again. You can add my name to the reviewer pool then, thanks for the info Retro. I don’t know if I saw something that made me think you had to have run a game first or if I just made an assumption. This question got answered privately, but I'll say publicly: We don't really see running a game as a requirement for reviewing. It's a PLUS, but we've had a number of reviewers who have never run a game before.
If you would like to volunteer to review games for Mafiera, please let me or Spider know.

LOL I completely forgot that we talked about running your game as a costume game! Sorry about that.
