@Fireblend hi sensei, I'm so happy to finally have a chance to play with you! But you are an enigma to me though so I can't justify trusting just like that, I hope you understand that.

Anyhow, are that many people seriously considering a No lynch? We didn't do it in HvV and it was advertised to be crazier than this game! From my experience (as small as it may be) lynches provides us with valuable information that will help us sooner or later.

I remember in Buffy votes helped me find two scums and I just can't justify not doing it, I'm sorry to cut someone's else fun on d1 but we just can't afford not having informations.

Also I found it funny that Stuart was the one who first mentioned it and yet seems to free surf it as if nothing happened.

Stuart, do you seriously believe that scums aren't gonna take advantage of the no lynch? Like seriously?

Vote: Stuart444

I feel it comes down to the fact they don't want to be trapped in Sorian's game alone. Everyone must suffer.

Melon and Terra’s spat has just enough indignation in it for me to buy that it’s bare minimum not fabricated between scum.
It simply wouldn't be a mafia game if I didn't get into at least one argument with someone day one. Usually it ends up being town v town, but we shall see.

Next time we post in the main thread, let's space it out more so we don't look so suspicious.

Bad, melon. Bad.

i don't apologize for the flurry of posts I'm about to make. Some are things I didn't get around to earlier.

Day 1 lynch discussions... They always end the same. A body in the gutter.

That said, I sense little reason to throw Faddy under the bus at this point, the night day is young. Let him speak more before we decide what to do.
Of course it does, but as melon put it, I'm dreaming of a kinder, gentler internet yelling murder game.

I didn’t realize statements made before the game that most would assume are jokes are suddenly hard stances. That being said I’m not particularly convinced scum Faddy would make such a move considering I know he’s smart enough to realize what the reaction will be.
^^^^^^yep^^^^^^^

The idea of 2 day 1's sounds painful to me. There's no vote history, no conversations to read, its just another day of vague conversations to get your post obligations in and some prodding. With 50 players, the quicker we can start trimming down the field the better. I appreciate the sentiment some have but at the end of the day, this is the game and if someone gets lynched, they'll have the spectators thread to move onto if they want to stay involved.
oh, I see you brought your logic it day one. We are shitposting, sir; did you not get the memo?

no i mean the vote on monkey, like every game she gets suspected for some form of excessively active play.
I love you the most, Stan, but I'm not sure how to feel about you taking my defense from me. Relieved that I don't have to do it? Suspicious that you're doing it? Is this a pocket?

giphy.gif

so if monkey were to hypothetically flip scum, that make yall think stan is more or equally likely to be scum as he was at the start of the day?
see above

It's a bit early for me to actually read anything into that but Stan and Natiko are two of... uh, really maybe the only two people I feel like I can gutread with any accuracy so I'll report out on them in the fullness of time.

Monkey's one of the more veteran players, and she was giving another player rudimentary mafia insight so I made a light jab at both of them.

Well, actually - I've only been playing about a year. I'm just, y'know, nice.

Sometimes.

Don't ask Heck if I'm nice.

Anyway, the Apollo pop-in is the only real interesting thread I think is worth teasing out but I'll sit on my feelings until it develops a bit, considering it's already been teased and now we're just waiting on reaction.

Oh, Febe's opening vote on Include was terrible, mean harassment of a former mentee. tsk.

I feel it comes down to the fact they don't want to be trapped in Sorian's game alone. Everyone must suffer.

Hey, you! Happy to see play again and hey we are playing together this time around too, I'm gonna be honest though, I kinda worry if you act scummy again and I tunnel on you again and then have to apologize for being dumb again. I can't promise not doing again though because I can't control my personality.

Is Stu the only #teamnolynch player you suspect? Stu mentioned it first but Faddy was the first to actually go through with the vote.
I have come to learn about Monkey's Town play when I played with her in HvV, if she is town she will put on work for us and it will show, I doubt she will be as frantically helpful if she is scum later on, nobody can fake that level of helpfulness if they are scum imo. So I'm gonna wait and see on her, assuming I don't get NK on N1, like Sorian & Brazil tried to in HvV.

Faddy is a gambler but really pationate as town, so just like Monkey I feel like I can judge them easily later on again assuming I'm still alive.

Stuart is prone to make gambit as scum and methinks he may just have done one here too, I also don't like how defensive he got after I probe voted him to be honest.

The day is still young though and so many players haven't showed up yet, so I am going to reserve my final judgements.

@Ferg In your own words, what do you think are the cons to lynching day 1 in a game like this? And do you think those cons outweighs the pros (as in pros for NL) in that scenario?

Like I said, since we're a lot it's probably different than what I usually play (it's not Mafia but its basically the same mechanics), but usually, we don't know a lot of stuff in Day 1, so the first one to be lynched will mostlikely be lynched with barely any reason, like I said, I do understand those who still want to lynch, I'm not saying they're wrong, it's just my personal opinion.

In the games I play we usually don't lynch on Day 1 so that we can allow people to prove themselves, to prove they aren't with the bad guys, or if we lynch someone, it's in a different way, we don't vote against someone we think is Mafia, we actually chose someone we think is innocent who will pick someone he thinks is innocent and so on, and last one who's picked up is lynched. But I know the GameMaster won't do it that way which I completely understand, it's his game he does it the way he wants, I'm just saying how i usually played, but since we don't know much for now, I choose not to lynch so we won't lynch too many innocent people with little proof.

And yeah, like @melonrabbit said, I'm new here so I don't know how you usually play those games here, soo...yeah

I'll vote to kill randomly from those that don't have a marvel avatar by end of day if nothing happens and this is as simple and unrevealing as usual day ones. You nonethemed avatar freaks have been warned

I will also show you all my master plan for today,
Players who make almost no noise will get voted on by me

Stuart is prone to make gambit as scum and methinks he may just have done one here too, I also don't like how defensive he got after I probe voted him to be honest.

Uhh. I've only been scum once and I don't remember making any gambit outside of saying what my role was when I was about to be lynched anyway.

'Prone' makes it sound like you've seen some pattern from me that even I've not seen from my 1 scum game.

Also wtf I didn't get defensive O.o (I am being defensive now I guess but whatever). I just said I explained my reason and dropped the whole no lynch subject.

If that is being defensive, lol.

because if its just you defending yourself then its the exact same history i was talking about happening again, where people suspect you for over-activity, you thoroughly defend yourself, and they then suspect you for defending yourself to much, i hope the a more impartial voice can cut of this stupid argument before i see it happen for the 5th time.

this isnt much of a defense of you, you could very well still be scum, just suspecting you for excessive participation has proven itself a terrible idea so many times now that i dont want town to do it again.

but yeah god forbid i try to talk town out of its stupid ideas.

lol at your dedication to a vote that's dumber than no lynch
You not agreeing with a vote =/= dumb. Pressure votes are plenty useful, even more so on new players. I've caught many a noob with various tactics of mine so whatever you say is moot when I have the results to back it.

If by "basically the same" you are referencing Town of Salem or something in that vein, it's really not that similar to forum mafia. On the usual forum in which I play mafia, asking if mafia is like ToS is basically a meme because that's not at all the case.

Anyway, that's not the case at all here. We have 48 hours to poke, prod, call out, and ruminate. By the end of the day you should have some inclination on your reads which is enough as far as day one is concerned since we're guaranteed new info with a lynch. In mafia it's far easier to distrust than trust, so the route you're used to is interesting, and something I personally find can be flawed, especially if it warps the mindset of new players. You'll have "little proof" on a vast majority of people paying on day 2 as we have now on day 1, which only feeds into a cycle of passiveness if you choose to wait until something slaps you in the face.

If your mindset is to always vote for a NL on day one regardless of circumstance, you're not playing optimally.

My role and its power is what I'm getting the info from, yeah

Not sharing much more cause, y'know, role could have some use
Yes, so you should not-

Cause in the one game I played with items they were a big deal (well the one was a big deal) and the more players know the better chances we got. We got so many players I'm betting most will be dead by day 3 and want everyone to be aware.

To clarify why I'm jumping to conclusion about gathering items well, theres the theme, but beyond that my role allows me to interact with power's beyond a player's role...and yada yada...so there's that.

I'm close to fully role claiming which makes me realize I'm playing damn stupid probably but this is only my second time as town, and I'm better with scum gameplay to be honest. With scum I know what I'm suppoused to keep to my team or not, here I don't...

Also first time as town with PR, so sorry to jump the gun, but there's plently of surpises left to make me confident it's better to share.
oh boy. I missed this wall earlier.
man, why did you put a big target on your back like this -.-

I get your enthusiasm and excitement in wanting to be like neat, items! Let me share this info! But you added "hey, kill me" as a footnote and generally that's a poor idea.

Because I never trust this strategy, which is why I always vote for the 1st No Kill voter every game because I believe it's either a pure Scum move, or because I am Scum & don't want to arouse suspicion. I'll probably change my vote when something more compelling comes about. I'm surprised & maybe, like 5% suspicious someone actually jumped onto my vote this early. So you 2 & Terraforce are my only suspicions at this juncture.
this is fair, btw, and I remember you doing it in a past game so at least it's consistent.

Wasn't a forum, it was in real life, and it was not Town of Salem, so yeah I get that there's a lot less discussion than in a forum, I'll see how the day goes, like I said, I never played here before, I might change my mind by the end of the day and start to agree to lynch someone, I get the pressure votes but I don't see why on new players.

As I said before and as with any pressure vote, it was to gauge a reaction. Of course it always depends on the mentality and reactivity of the target, but as I said in my post, I've caught several new players with a well placed pressure vote.

And yeah, comparing this to irl mafia is probably even worse than ToS comparisons. I still don't like your mentality for voting, but I haven't seen you play before so it's hard to tell if it's pure naivete or you're trying to cover yourself for a peculiar vote.

I get the pressure votes but I don't see why on new players.

New players have no background, so poking them gives a little bit of info on their reactions. I did the textual equivalent of vomiting on my shoes when it happened to me... which no doubt swung opinions.

Problem is with new players that kind of text vomiting is often NAI but may be read as AI. And probably the same thing here could have happened with a simple conversation sans vote.

I dunno, I just remember my first forum game - which is the only time I've been lynched as town - and I was just mystified by all these weird strong opinions on things that didn't make sense to me as an outsider who didn't understand the meta and the things people pressed me on seemed bonkers. I'm sure I vomited on my shoes too, and it got me killed.

So I'm biased for sure, but it also taught me a lesson. Maybe not one I've learned as well as I should but it lurks.

Just kidding.

Man CoolestSpot says "my team" a hell of a lot. Which team is that, Coolest?

Monkey trusts Faddy at least twice in her opening posts, just because of a totally NAI following pre-game plan? Garbo. And/or pocketing attempt.

Stan defends Monkey early. Bit passive aggressive at first which is Bad, but doubles down on it so only Quite Bad.

Kawl asking easy questions. "I have an opinion but I'm not saying it tee hee"

Monkey's persecution complex shining bright as usual, zzz

Terra telling us how pro he is. Again. Gosh can't we just be more like him /dreamysigh

Why? What reaction would you expect from that? I'd expect some misguided shade, some pointless early votes, and ultimately nothing. He's not in any real danger of being lynched for it.

It's an easy, safe play to make. NAI but more convenient if he's scum, so I disagree completely.

After PR, I think appearing defensive just may be how Stuart comes across but we'll see, I guess.

Quite a few people making a post or two then dipping immediately after. I don't even see the point unless you're going to post some thoughts.

Gonna flip over to Apollo for now, because even rereading his posts I have no idea what his objective is in asking these kind of questions. Feels like he's trying to feel space. I could have given him more credit if he at least tried to make his point relevant, or gave thoughts on literally anything else, but he's really one track minded right now in the direction opposite to literally every other discussion point.

Morning, gang. Ah, the joys of D1 where I can't read to save my life and either resorting to an RNG vote or following the crowd in a way that'd make Solomon Asch say "You see what he's doing? That's exactly what I was talking about." (Nice to put my year of studying psychology to work for once.)

With regards to the hot topics so far - I'm not seeing Spot's opening move as overly scummy. As much as I dislike relying on meta, this does remind me a little of his move at the start of Bill and Ted where he, as town, told a tactical lie to draw out scum. I'm not going straight for the conclusion that he's doing the same thing here, but I wouldn't put it past him. As for the no lynch, I don't really see a great deal of point in that. With so many players, D1 becomes more of a roulette than usual - the chances of a mislynch are high, unfortunately, but we have to start somewhere. Besides, what's one mislynch today against the crossfire that we'll start seeing from ITAs tomorrow?

Voting for no lynch is never a good idea - only scum is going to benefit from it.

That said, this game has so many players, that scum has really easy time to get lost to the masses during first few days. Keep that in mind.

I’ve thought about it while in the shower.

And I think voting no lynch is impossible in our current climate. With a town of 50 this might possibly be the largest scum team we have ever seen. The likes of which are truly unparalleled.

So despite the large town we likely have the same % chance of hitting scum as a normal game. We have to start thinking of this as a normal game, with our normal quirks, not some end all be all. #mafiashowerthoughts
