Game Thread Marvel Heroes Mafia - Half of You Will Enjoy This

I didnt goad the others.

Gor said he wanted to reveal the item. I knew what it couldnt be, so I wanted to know what slid thru.
Everyone else who claims to have tried to grab the cop check did so in their very first post about the event after it ended, simply because there was no reason to withhold that information.

You didn't.

The way you didn't quote Monkey in your post and said "I also went for the cop check" (like Coolest did), but instead just threw the information out there makes it seem like you were consciously making an effort to avoid seeming like you were reacting to her claim.

And to add to that, if you are scum, you couldn't have said you went for the strong kill just as easily because there's an inherent need to explain yourself if you claim that. There's no inherent need to explain yourself if you claim to reach out for the cop check.

Hey, Brazil, Zeke, you're both pretty and both probably town. It'll end in tears.
I don't want to and I don't think I even can dissuade anyone from voting off of Alexem and on to Zeke today. I'm ok laying these thoughts out right now for future reference depending on how Alexem flips.

Let's break this down further while we wait:

Muffin has been very disengaged, not building a case or pushing major reads on anyone in the game. Even here, he's tearing down a possible reason to scumread/vote someone rather than building anything that's an alternative. Further, with the macro shade about how scum would try something as we approach EoD (six hours away) he's free to do the same thing with ANY train that forms. It's easy to say "it's not organic" because it doesn't mean anything. It's feels.

I also don't see an active vote from Muffin from anyone this phase. Last phase, like Alexem, he voted Mazre and Kawl.
You're conveniently ignoring that I pushed Rynam and especially Include. So your nice little read here looks incriminating out of context, good job.

And no shit is my view that this specific lynch looks like it's going too fast not an objective truth but my subjective view, my "feels". Tell me something new.

If I don't like Alexems answer to all this I'll be happy to lynch him, and if he turns out town, I'll be happy to look at you lot pushing this lynch so hard without an answer yet. It's win-win.

What does that have to do with anything? The only difference between me and you was I told gor to go ahead.

You know using me not quoting somenoe is a big ass reach right?

Pushing Rynam shouldn't get anyone town cred, c'mon. He was as obvious as someone showing up in a fedora with a tommy gun.

This is rich after all the discussion on D1 and people wanting to not push him because it's too easy.

i dunno, this alexem situation just feels like noise to me

wanna explain why we should just ignore brazil vs ezekel?
How many times am I gonna be asked to repeat the same shit? I have put my town read on Zeke down multiple times today. Brazil I'm way less certain of, but Natiko and Fandorin came to similar conclusions based on different perspectives and it makes me think he's not a worthwhile target at all... which to my mind, pushes him to the town side.

What are your thoughts?

What does that have to do with anything? The only difference between me and you was I told gor to go ahead.
As I was saying, the difference is that the real townie play after trying and failing to grab the cop check, as seemingly demonstrated by Monkey and Coolest, was to immediately reveal that information as soon as the event ended.

Instead, you came back into the thread with a careful post not revealing anything about yourself, but asking others to do it.

There's a huge difference between being open from the get-go and withholding information. It could be just an unfortunate misstep, sure. But you had the opportunity to make the perfect town play, as Monkey and Coolest did, and you didn't. Maybe because you couldn't.

You could argue that I was the same because I was waiting for everyone else to claim first - but you can't verify that like I can with your post at Gorlak. And, as a townie, I had no reason to pressure anyone to reveal their info before I did. If you are scum, you had a reason to do just that.

You know using me not quoting somenoe is a big ass reach right?
I disagree. The way people do things is something I always look out for. It's not a factor I base my arguments on, but it's something that reinforces them.

I'm not interested in debating methodology, though.

You raise that point as if I made a quick post, left my vote on Rynam, and just let it be like that like a few others. I didn't. I pushed that.
And what I’m saying is the same thing I said then: he wasn’t worth pushing. He was worth shooting. He was too obvious to waste a lynch on in this game so there’s not even good data from a lynch there. Anyone could freely bus him. You shoot that and move on.

Without Include now, who’s your target today?

Lord that was to Muffin on ET
I'm kind of baffled that you're asking, as you seem to have me figured out so well. Did you miss me prodding and interacting with Faircure and ET earlier? I laid out my reasoning for ET quite plainly.

Muffin

I'd be down for an Extreme or a Faircure lynch today I think. Extreme is the only really suspicious in the D2 shots left in my opinion, and I said why I don't really like how Faircure is playing either. I saw her acknowledge that she isn't around much, but that's not really the crux of the problem. There are a bunch of inactive people. It seems a bit deliberate (I'm sorry if it's not, I know that that can be frustrating to read) and how I think Faircure would play as scum. She wasn't extremely active in HvV either, but this seems like an attempt to fly under the radar. And I think that makes Faircure dangerous, as not many notice her much as it seems to me.

Reminds me of GG in Cluedo Mafia.

I'm seriously willing to be thrown questions.

I don't really know what there is to be asked. A scum member could have boosted a shot on D2. Four shots hit. Two shooters are dead, your shot is the more suspicious to me.

I could ask you why you shot Verelios, but I think almost everybody at the time wanted Vere dead, so your motivation isn't gonna differ much.

I’m more asking why you think that’s more valid than anything else today. Lynches definitely seem to function differently here.

There was no misstep to be had. Because you are seeing something that was never there.

No, its just a big reach. There is absolutely no methodology.

Brazil you’re a little hypocritical there re: methodology my dude but whatever.
I'm talking about scumhunting methodology there, and not about behavior in general or the way people react to an event.

If that's not what you're talking about, then your point went over my head.

As I said, I'm gonna evaluate if it's more valid than an Alexem lynch based on his answer.

And i can't shoot him instead of lynch him, now can I.

faircure is a decent target in my eyes. But didn’t ET say he might not be back today? So as a target he’s soft and the lynch itself seems to inspire lackluster discussion, so what do we gain as a whole?

If we get to EoD and there’s big discussion there, great. I’m thrilled to be wrong.

I already did.

It's a careful post because it doesn't reveal anything about yourself, unlike Monkey's and Coolest's initial posts. I've gone over this. Either you understand it by now, or you just don't want to.

Welp, i bet imma sleep through the day end again, and since i dont have much in the way of scum reads (they all keep dying, first world mafia problems) beyond iffy feelings about people i think imma do this.

Vote: Blargonaut

I dont like how little we have heard from you, given this games wealth of fuckery you have been practically, well, boring. A terrible sign if there ever was one.
And it should be noted that factitious non-responses will only make this feeling worse.

I suppose that could be their way of input. Though why should we look to a mystery entity for guidance is questionable.

BLARG - O - NAUT IS HERE \o/

Who's your favourite lynch candidate for today, bae?

The principle: scum wants the strong kill.

The result: scum doesn't get the strong kill. Either no one sacrificed their powers, or someone else also went for it.

Side-note: Both Fandorin and I thought it was risky to go for the cop check because others would do it too. I think most townies would've avoided it, and therefore I don't think three townies went for it. This is just probability, though.

Scum comes into the thread and finds this post:

I got an item and am willing to reveal it. I was expecting that no town would sacrifice, so I'm leaning towards scum being within this player group.
Which means someone sacrificed their powers, and that someone else other than scum also went for the strong kill.

Since the other players are seemingly open to revealing their information, the scum player needs to find a way to position himself publically as well.

Then, someone else reveals the perfect cover:

Why wouldn't a town player sacrifice? I would if I had a power. Unless it's like a really amazing power, powers only take town so far.

I asked for the cop check. Ironically, I wanted to use it on you.
I assume you didn't get it then?
Nope. I guess someone else wanted it, too.

The scum player can now claim to not have an item because they also went for the cop check. "The other person that went for the strong kill can have a hard time explaining their choice; I'm in this."
The scum player can't quote the person who provided the cover as to not make it obvious that they were waiting for that post to reveal themselves.

I went for cop item.

Another player, who is way more open with their own information and who also claims to have gone for the cop check, does the exact opposite of what Zeke did - he says it outright in his first post, and he quotes Monkey as he isn't afraid of the bad optics of being the second player to claim to have reached out for a specific item.
Well lookie here, same as me. I was going to go for Gorlak or Nan but hey it is what it is.

Sacrificed my power though so no more item/power warping from me

I'm laying this out here in a way that is very easy to understand because I don't want this discussion to seemingly end in a "stalemate" like melon x Zeke.

Maybe I'm wrong, yes, but I'm not crazy. And the fact that Zeke's response to this whole thing was basically an attempt at gaslighting me (the typical scum response to being caught with their pants down) reinforces my belief in this theory.

Nope, just a quick post.

There's a methodology to quoting a post.........I've heard it all.

Coolest - Sacrifice
Fandorin & Brazil - Strong Kill
Zeke & Monkey - Cop Check
Gorlak - Redirect

Alexem - ???

On zeke’s choice: If all other claims are to be believed the only other outcome that prevents cop check from going out is Alexem picking cop. Since Alexem hasn’t said jack, it means

1. Two(+?) people are cooperating to pull a fast one (zeke and Alexem? zeke and monkey?).
2. Alexem picked cop and zeke didn’t.
3. zeke is telling the truth.

I lean on truth right now, but to stay on brand I’ll say I’m not terribly sure about that.

Weighing in on the items that weren’t picked next.

Reflector not being chosen says something about all players involved: they don’t think they’re going to be targeted, they don’t have anything to lose by being targeted, or they don’t want to block a friendly power. The main reason to take a reflector is safety. Mafia takes it to keep someone like zipped off them, town or neutral take it to protect themselves.

Obvious so far, right? But a reflect on a low impact town role (vanilla or something like hider) isn’t going to be all that attractive. I feel like a powerful role, town or scum, might’ve chosen reflector. Yet there reflector sits. All the other options PROVIDE a role effect, reflector enhances a preexisting one very effectively. A town taking reflector and announcing it becomes untouchable until either a mafia pops it with some non-kill ability (possibly revealing themselves) or a foolish town negates it. Or an ITA I guess but that’s traceable. It’s less effective on mafia, but it still might save a vital role for a night. That it wasn’t taken might indicate they desperately need one of the other options. With the protection happening last night, maybe they’re out of strong kills and that one shot is just too juicy to pass up.

Tl;dr: y’all either didn’t have power roles to give up, you have minor ones outclassed by another choice, or you’re playing a meta game of stopping another’s choice. Or you’re coolest. Thanks coolest.

100% ITA is something that can be traced back to the winner fairly easily given our garbage hit rates. Mafia might shy away from this due to hit rate shenanigans being suspicious here, town might think they’re painting a target on themselves to get nk’d before using it. All in all not shocked it wasn’t chosen. ITA boost was either too obvious, or simply not valuable in the face of other items.

...this post is why I generally try to stick to the background. Feels like mind vomit. Ugh. I spent so long typing it that I might as well post it.

Ugh, I need to get some work done today so I’ll probably be on and off till day end.

My overall take on the event first before I go.

I read Coolest’s sacrifice and openness as town. His PR makes sense and apparently fits with his behavior in previous days. His pick also makes sense with his reckless self; going for the most obvious item.

I was supposed to scum read whoever else picked the strong kill, but I can’t do that now that Brazil had the exact same rationale that I did. It’s also very much the type of move he’d do as town too.

Surprised that monkey went for the cop item as she did. Thought that as town she’d follow me into the strong kill or picked a easier item instead, knowing that the cop item would be the most picked one. Doesn’t affect my town read on her much.

I see Brazil’s case against Ezeke and it makes sense, it’s still not enough for me to disconsider my town read on him which was amplified by the lack of kills this phase. I’ll pay more attention to his apparent curt manner of responding though that Muffin and Monkey alluded to.

Alexem’s role claim was baffling to me, especially since it came after Gorlak called out whoever sacrificed his role as possible scum. And disappearing without saying his pick is pretty weird, so weird that I don’t think scum would be so on the nose about it. Will reserve my vote till he comes back, but instantly shot up on my radar.

Disagree with Gorlak’s initial take on the sacrifice, but don’t see why scum would open up that can right after the event, especially since the consensus was the exact opposite. His pick makes sense too.
